Last time I went to a football match was one where they allocated an area of the ground to local schools and sold tickets at a discount specifically aimed at children.
Imagine my joy when sitting with my primary-age kids next to the opposition fans who serenaded us with expletives and "you're a load of fking useless wkers" throughout the match.
Give me nerds over football fans "socialising" and "letting off steam" any day of the week.
Agreed. I wrestled at the Edinburgh Comicon last year so had a wander between matches. Seeing an excited little kid dressed up as a Mandalorian getting his pic taken by his parents with 2 cosplayers who look like they've walked straight off the set was really cool. Yes, it's very nerdy, but everyone seemed to be having a nice relaxed time without the need for swearing at someone who prefers a different group of men in different t shirts.Imagine my joy when sitting with my primary-age kids next to the opposition fans who serenaded us with expletives and "you're a load of fking useless wkers" throughout the match.

This will probably go quite badly but let’s give it a go.
I don’t get what the big deal about 9/11 is?
Totally understand that it was a horrific day in history that no doubt affected a lot of peoples lives. I’m sure it dramatically shook the people of New York and family of those people.
What I don’t get is the whole it changed the USA forever and changed every Americans life. Did it really affect your average guy living in say Arizona with no friends or family within 1000 miles of New York. It would have been a shock etc but change their life?
They went to war after but it’s not the first or last time they will pack off to invade somewhere.
It’s the weight that’s hung on it I don’t understand. I was also only 11 when it happened so maybe it didn’t hit me like it did adults at the time.
Wasn't the big deal that it was worth about 10bn to the Bush family and associated companies in rebuild and infrastructure projects to rebuild iraq?I don’t get what the big deal about 9/11 is?

There's a massive difference. Pretend footballists wear the kit because they are devoid of imagination or original thought, and put on their team's shirt because it brings a sense of tribal belonging to their otherwise meaningless lives, and to exclude others who wear a different colour.
Whereas cosplayers are supremely geeky yet caring and dedicated souls who express themselves through their artistic skill and creativity as a mark of inclusivity to a rich and diverse culture.
TBH that's a very fair comment - I was thinking more about cos-play gets (unfairly) sneered at, replica football jerseys or TDF gear is laudedWhereas cosplayers are supremely geeky yet caring and dedicated souls who express themselves through their artistic skill and creativity as a mark of inclusivity to a rich and diverse culture.
Disney.
They've gone from a company making entertaining films that the whole family could watch (even though they could tend to be a bit syrupy or twee) to an unacceptable example of capitalism, using kids as leverage to extract large amounts of money from their parents.
The films have deteriorated over the years to become the same, recycled cliched characters in every situation - and more recently their films are full of woke messages that are starting to drive people away.
Are the parents kidding themselves when they go to the theme parks? - "look, it's Mickey Mouse!" when they know full well it's someone on minimum wage in a costume. This, while being fleeced for vastly overpriced merchandise. And accommodation costs. And passes to what is basically a playground. Which must be good because it's so damn expensive.

OTOH, I was persuaded, much against my will, to go to Disneyland (in California) and enjoyed it enormously, other than not being able to get a glass of wine with my dinner. But I'm in no way "into" Disney.Lotusgone said:

You could equally ask what's the big deal about tearing down a wall or invading Poland or removing an over mighty monarch. It isn't (only) the event in itself that is significant but the paradigm shift it represents. I don’t get what the big deal about 9/11 is?

I had the misfortune of catching a small pride celebration at my local park this morning which seemed to involve a transvestite playing a saxophone while the rent a mob that arrive on a rainbow bus dance around.
Nobody else took any notice of what they were doing.
Call my cynical but it I was gay having to witness these events would be enough to turn me straight.

That performance has very little to do with the vast majority of gay people.Nobody else took any notice of what they were doing.

I'd like to add concert tour T-shirts into the mix...
Indeed, my concert going confederate is scathing about my complete disinclination to spend 30 minutes queuing for a poor quality badly stenciled 80p t-shirt that is being hawked at £35.
