They are a hilarious read but I have a rule that I won't post in any threads. The internet really does give you an insight into worlds you would never have believed could exist. They all get a vote, that's the terrifying thing.
The more terrifying thing is the stty choice of prospective candidates on the voting slips, be it local or national elections. rolleyes

Best comments ever on ours the other week.

Someone posted a link to a local news story where local man had been caught procuring the services of a lady of the night. Local man was subsequently tagged in this story causing much outrage.
Along comes this series of comments:

Karen: 'I don't know why this is on here. You're all berating him, it's 2019 and it's not like he's committed a murder!"

Dave: "Actually....." Inserts link to 2009 news story where local man had indeed been jailed for manslaughter.

I laughed. It was deleted quite quickly.

It's amazing how similar this sounds to my town, which to form has a splitters facebook page after the original had some "falling outs".

We're not in pot hole season yet, but we did have a homeless chap living in our park for a few weeks, with the town do gooders falling over themselves to give him stuff. It went from a hot drink, to a blanket, to a tent, clothes and eventually a job complete with a caravan to live in.

At one point I seriously expected to see claims of people going to his tent to tug him off. (I'm sure the WI could have organised some sort of rota system.)

I try not to post too much on there, as I think I'll get banned, but the "keep xyz town green" lot do my nut in, and I feel obliged to point out that their housing development was a field at some point (but that doesn't count apparently).

There was one post about some local politician claiming allowances whilst sick. Lots of comments like "look at her laughing at us"

I had to again point out that she was only laughing in the picture because that's what she was doing when it was taken.

My wife was a member of a "Ladies of xxxx close" group on FB. Not very inclusive. She would occasionally read some stuff from it. Mostly it was drivel, bins go out Thursday this week type st. Occasional nugget. Recently it went nuclear when plans were released to develop the bit of spare land opposite our close to build some flats. OUTRAGE!!!!!!!! I couldn't give a fk. She left it in the end after I pointed out they had given the new chap who rents at the end of the road a racist nickname. Bunch of fking snobs.

They all had a party in someones garden the other week and didn't invite us. My wife was livid. I was just glad I didn't have to think of an excuse not to go.

My local town has a '<local town> news' and a '<local town> "REAL" news' group. The origins of The Great Schism predate me, but in effect they both consist of the same spammy ads copied into both pages. hehe

My village has one run by someone on the council on behalf of the council, and a breakaway group that was created because someone had the temerity to post on the original one about an event happening in a nearby village, on the basis that people in our village might want to travel outside the boundaries (having first obtained appropriate inoculations) to see it.

That post was deleted, and the deletion caused some robust discussion, after which a new group with a very convoluted name to encompass several local places was created. It's not unreasonable to have them all in one group as, if the building of houses continues, they'll all be joined soon anyway. [/facebook_local_group]

I am a member of our local FB group and once asked if anyone could help me deal with a wasp nest in return for some beers etc (I hate wasps).

My post was closed for commenting by the admins as apparently the local Facebook group isn’t for that kind of thing. I was directed to pay attention to the rules in future.

Rules below for reference:

So, taking this on board, I posted this:

Got sinbinned for that for a while....

Until I joined my local groups, I never knew that there was so much pent up demand for gels, nails and eye lash technicians hehe

Some of my local ones are a prime case study in what happens when you equip the local gossips and self righteous law enforcers with far too much time on their hands with the power of social media. It's generally not worth getting into an argument with them as either they have far more free time than you do to argue or they'll just fall back on the "frail old pensioner under attack by trolls" shield.

You can normally time it to within a few minutes of someone posting about a local RTA before the usual suspects demand speed cameras NOW. Helpful in the case of someone being hit in a segregated layby a few years back....

The worst ones are the "Blue lights seen at corner of Petcham Lane, I hope everything is ok" brigade. No, you really don't. You're just being nosy and hope someone will fill you in on the gory details.

The one ray of hope you can hold onto is that you will most likely outlive them or the social media platform biggrin

My village one is pretty typical with dog st, bins etc. Today they're rejoicing at the news of the HS2 independent review as during construction they'd need to bring truck through the village so everyone was up in arms about that.

The best ongoing saga has been a plot of land that used to be the car park to a pub. The pub was converted to flats a while ago and the plot was just left so people carried on using it as a car park, including churchgoers at the church next door. Recently the owner of the plot fenced it off with a view to start doing something with it. The outrage and entitlement at the injustice of someone wanting to use their land for their own means was hilarious. Some poor sod suggested that people should have bought it themselves (I believe it was offered to the village at the time the pub was sold but they didn't want it or rather didn't want to have to pay for it). I think he was later burnt in a wicker man type ceremony.

Also I'm a member of one that allows people to highlight suspicious behaviour in the area or other things like roads being blocked etc. The Defence Helicopter Flying School uses the area for training so it's not too uncommon to have a helicopter buzzing about doing circuits or moderately low level stuff. Each time this happens someone goes postal either thinking we're being invaded or that the local ne'er do wells have upgraded from a 53 plate Astra to a Eurocopter Squirrel to case people's houses and barns for stuff to nick.

Our local know it all, likes a good arguement and generally into everthing went very quiet.

Turns out he was literally into everything and was doing a lengthy stint at one of her majesty’s finest establishments for indecent images.

Ooh fireworks have just been let off. Timing how long it takes for someone to complain that their dog/cat/child was terrified and it’s time to get them banned.

I was on a semi local page, it turned out it was run by some old moaner who had most of his family on there too. He was complaining about how many gardens are now paved over and it's tough on the birds, I pointed out (as he was cat mad) that cats amounted to most garden bird deaths these days. He pulled out an old forgotten pic from my profile which had me pointing a shotgun in the air (it was a Groupon offer for shooting clays) and asked what I was shooting. I told him we put cats on a machine and flung them into the air whilst taking shots at them.
That went down well.

He then had some kind of photo competition and ignored a woman who guessed correctly early on. Later he proclaimed the winner to be some other woman and I pointed out the mistake.
Instant ban biggrin

I got banned off my local one, and I am probably close to a ban on the local one for parking, there is this one woman who posts up all the time about how she has to go on the road with her dog and buggy as there is a car on pavement,
Got quite upset when I suggested she use the crossing up the street when you see a car parked badly, cross safely, and questioned her what she does when she has to actually cross the road, which is as dangerous as walking out to by a car, I am the bad person for highlighting the obvious and not being the "woe is you" poster.

Which has since stemmed a lot of men posting stuff along the lines of
"Van parked badly here, struggle to get my pasty and child bearing hips by" hehe

The main page though I was banned from for two reasons, one I was against the flower brigade and asked why they should have council money and still beg for money on here, when they never acknowledge people who help, and how the council wastes money like the £56k they spent to monitor the main road, get average speed of 23 mph, then spend £50k installing 20mph signs.

The real reason though, I suggested a new welcome sign into the town should be 2 rows of daffodils down the grassy area, and a car badly parked over them, sign written "welcome to XXXXX, for the greater good" hehe

There is a post in ours.
Basically a car has been stolen. Broke into the house to steal the keys. Car has a GPS tracker.
GPS tracker shows it’s been driven to some local storage units.
1. The Storage yard is apparently owned by Travellers.
2. A man lives on site with 2 dogs in a caravan.
3. A policeman went to site, stood at gates and said he can’t do anything.

Now it’s a rant against police.
Special mentions to
Contact the local MP
Contact the widow of the MP that was killed.

Update.
Owner of storage site has replied saying to the victim come down and check CCTV but they have checked said unit and it’s empty.....

The local nut jobs where we lived previously are going batst about a planning application for a new charity run dog rehoming kennels being built right on the edge of the village.

One bloke is suggesting house prices will fall on average of £50k. There’s another woman on there saying she’s put her house up for sale..

It’s only potentially holding 20 dogs, it’s a bloody charity, it’s on the edge of the village on the way out and unless the wind is blowing hard in the right direction I doubt anyone would hear it anyway.

So the two sides of the argument have been battling it out in the comments for the last week, the 50k guy keeps saying he’s bowing out of the debate and then he’s back within 5 mins to add more of his 2penneth in.

I’m so glad we moved laugh
