Does anyone else's local group have people selling, or at least trying to sell, second hand items for 80-90% of full retail price? just a quick scroll through the last few days shows a £170 for a phone, that you can get with a 6month warranty for £180, £70 for an Ikea lamp that was £85 new, £80 for £100 perfume bottle that they've used and don't like the smell of, £10 for £12 puzzle. Do some people see anything cheaper than retail as good value?
Had a few lately where they're asking full retail price! Advert follows the same style of "I ordered this <piece of tat furniture or clothing> but it doesn't look right in my living room/is the wrong size. Anyone want to buy it before I send it back? Just looking for what I paid for it." Nice try! Dark85 said:

Some woman trying to sell her old shoes at £10/£20 a pair at the moment. Now I know there is a market for this, but not for your manky bright red walking boots that went out of fashion somewhere around 1970.This dog stealing thing is everywhere, came home last night to find my kids hadn't taken the dogs for a walk because my mother in law had phoned earlier to say they weren't to because of someone stealing dogs locally on Facebook, my wife laps it up too, but if I call bullst then I'm just a cynical bd, so I kind of gave up.
To be honest I also just nodded at my wife's opinions on the whole Megan royal thing also despite completely disagreeing with her because I'm getting another car on Tuesday and want to keep in her good books.

We had a really sad one last night. Post about a little old lady had 2 dogs stolen by 2 males in a white van. I immediately called custard on it but watched how it played out.
Turned out someone had the wrong end of the stick. The lady had dementia. Her dogs were rehomed a while back. Very sad.
Unfortunately our local 'newspaper' took a facebook story and ran it as fact. It's still there now. It's sending half the community into a dog theft panic and the other half into annoyance that they are pushing a story that didn't happen for clicks.
I'd love to know the local Police figures on actual dog theft. Any men in white vans wouldn't need to steal. Just head down to the local estate where they will find half a dozen free running staffs and huskies without the need for aggression.
I have seen a few articles saying there had been a 170% increase in dog thefts since the first lockdown.Turned out someone had the wrong end of the stick. The lady had dementia. Her dogs were rehomed a while back. Very sad.

The source seems to be DogLost - a charity focused on reuniting dogs with their owners. Not sure of the basis of their claim.
I work in a dog shelter (albeit not in UK, exact same lockdown related problems though).
We're not seeing anything unusual with thefts. Just the same horse st being shared online, chalk marks on walls, strange people in a van etc etc etc. All nonsense.
The only real change we're seeing is more people dumping their own dogs.

Someone in a van spotted taking stuff out of a skip. I mentioned that I would prefer someone taking stuff they can make use of, rather than going to landfill. Bad move!
Anyway - I've now left both local groups. I can't be dealing with having to restrain myself. For me, Facebook is now only for car clubs, Marketplace, and a small group of family members.
