I wouldn't say that I am getting grumpy(er), but I am tired of the snowflake brigade.

You know you're getting on when TV used to consist of Andy Pandy, Bill and Ben and The Woodentops on Black and White 12" telly.

I'm finding that i am less bothered about the latest and greatest thing any more and more content with what i have. I find i don't have to travel at the n'th extreme of what my car or bike can do, i'm more excited about 'experiences' nowadays.

But, I'm finding i am getting more angry about moral rights and wrongs, and less likely to let things drop regarding mine and my familes health and safety.

In the process of moving out of Manchester and into the countryside. I am done with city living and city problems.

I'm getting old.

Hmmmmm? Have I mellowed with age?

I was strolling around Imber village this afternoon and got called a "Gormless Sod" by some ahole on a bicycle. He followed it up with "It's a road you idiot." My crime? I was walking on a road with no footways in a village only open on a few days a year that has NO public rights of way and NO residents. How the juddering fk was I supposed to avoid walking "on the road" when there were cars parked on both sides of the road and signs everywhere warning that I might be blown up by "unexploded military debris" if I left the carriageway. And how the juddering fk was I supposed to know that this bicycling spunk-trumpet was sneaking up behind me if he didn't even own a bell, let alone ring it?

Well he's only walking around with his teeth still in his head right now because my wife got a firm grip on me and physically intervened when I tried to chase him down. I was up for dragging him from his bike and punching him until he was unconscious. Then I planned to punch him some more, and maybe rip off his arms and stuff the soggy ends up his generously upholstered arse. So I suppose you could say I've mellowed a bit with age, on account of how a few years ago I'd not have allowed my wife to keep a grip on me...

furious
wobblesmash
punch
I've always wondered what ' juddering fk ' actually meant ? Is it a dysfunctional sexual act ?

All of you writing about getting 'old' - how old are you? 'Old', to me, is something you never become, you just grow older - and older - until you don't any more.

I shall be 70 in November. I don't consider that to be old, just older though I am aware that I'm not as agile as I once was, can't remember things as well as I once did and my attitudes and priorities have changed. I no longer take my health for granted, one way or another it takes more time and effort (and more visits to my GP or to hospital but you get used to that).

Overall I don't mind getting older. I just hope I finish all the things I'd like to do before I stop.

More " Meldrew " I suppose.

Phoned up for an car insurance quote, and the girl said the quote was be £234 and she said " shall we go ahead with that, what card will you use ? "

Hold on I said, I had to explain the concept of a quote, of getting other quotes from other companies and deciding, at one's leisure, which one to go for.

Then she said: " fine, so can you give me your 16 digit card number ? ".

I don't bloody believe it

I am forty four. I've never been older in my entire life.

That's an age where a fully grown adult could be one's offspring so that's old in evolution's terms.

I'd say 0-25 is young. 25-50 is middle aged. 50+ is walking corpse.

Not sure where to slot in these days. 57 is probably too old for middle-aged, but I definitely don't feel 'old'.

I've mellowed with experience. I used to get stressed over little things but now see a bigger picture, and I like it.

May you be happy, healthy and at peace. hippy

I know several people who’d be too shy to say no, they’d buckle under the pressure and hand over the detail

Must admit, these days find myself mellowing out as i get older.

I used to get wound up about anything and everything, so much so that we decided to move to a much quieter almost isolated area.

So, it's either that, and not having to deal with the scurge of society anymore that has brought my blood pressure down, or the fact that i am older and therefore more chilled..

What about you guys?

Are you finding you mellow out with age or are you getting more Victor Meldrew?

biggrin

Old : more than 5 years older than me.

Getting old:

Not being able to remember your age so you can't then work out whether something is old or not.

You didn't 'have' to explain the concept of a quote, but you did anyway, and simply came across as a condescending dick to someone on not much above minimum wage, who presumably gets a small amount of commission if you sign up to increase her small pay packet.

As I get older I realise how many idiots there are in the world, and how having the slightest appreciation for someone else's position would make a lot of daily interactions much better.
