Worcester yesterday vs normal.

One thing I don't understand, is why the predictions on many of the EA river level monitoring sites have been removed. They're making a big thing about "ooh level has dropped a little, you can now drive down New Road and across the bridge" plus they're rejoicing it didn't overtop the defences at Upton last night and has dropped a little.

Yet, last night up stream from Worcester, Bewdley still rising rapidly as it is at Stourport, already higher than the peak on Sunday which flowed down and caused the chaos yesterday, ref above Worcester pics. Looking even further upstream, still rising at Bridgenorth, still rising at Buildwas just up from Ironbridge, last night in early hours it peaked at Shrewsbury. That water is just heading downstream and there isn't time to get rid of what's already here.

So back to original question, why remove the forecast levels? Adjusts tin foil hat.

Just heard that a hangar at North Weald collapsed in the high winds, crushing my old Yak-52 which had been up there for maintenance - looking like a write off. frown

Just metal at the end of the day, nobody hurt, but still gutting.

Blimey, sorry to hear such news. frown

ETA: The hanger roof at Duxford Airfield became unstable in high winds last week and the M11 was closed both ways due to the concern of it blowing on to the motorway.

Yaks are tough as old boots - built from proper Soviet girders. A mate's 52 had a hangar door at Waltham collapse on it in a storm a few years ago, but it saved a couple of very rare and fragile aircraft behind it in the process, and was repaired. This is looking much more like a write off though. I sold my share last year, but was hoping to get back into it at some stage. Particularly vexing for some of the new members in the group who had only just been checked out in it.

As I said, just metal at the end of the day, just sad to end this way after 30 years, 20 or so in the UK, and after 15 years of being in the group - lots of memories surrounding that airframe. Lots of folk suffering far worse from the weather of late though.

Sorry to hear about something valued being destroyed.

In other news our bottom field, or at least a significant part of it, is now a picturesque duckpond. Worse things happen at sea, it will dry out.

Ardrossan ferry. Scary stuff! Imagine the scene at the bar.

If you were in the queue to get on there would you

a) Stay in the queue and get on

b) Find somewhere to stay the night and get the ferry the next day

c) Drive round the long way (assuming you're notg oing to an island!)
Not A.
B - it's Ardrossan - its like Beirut

C - it's the ferry to the isle of Arran.

your call hehe
There is a long way round via another ferry - a mere 126 miles!

Visited Wallingford today. Thames has burst its banks on both sides and is flowing really quickly. Riverside car park under several feet of water. Saw some guy in a pickup hammering around in it. Not a good idea, as there's a paddling pool somewhere under there.

Barriers on Severnside South @ Bewdley being built so high that scaffolding starting to be needed for safe access.

On Severnside North temporary barriers will be overtopped this evening or overnight. frown

Ironbridge being evacuated, danger to life. Just about at peak, Bridge North still rising, as is Bewdley etc obviously.

Barbourne, just north of Worcester centre the slight fall has halted and starting to rise. Some folks in city centre are burying their heads in denial imo.
