First snowballs of the season!
Woke up to a covering and on and off showers this morning. Brightened up now, blue skies but still very cold.
Queensbury, West Yorkshire.

Think I've only ever been to Queensbury once. Was only a sprog at the time and Dad went there to buy a shed or a garage, I forget which. What I don't forget was that it was absolutely bloody freezing up thereGOG440 said:

Keeping an eye on the big day. Hopeful for cold weather, currently chance of frost and snow on hills as low pressure finally buggers off.
Still very much in the mix - could yet turn mild.
Myself and some older relatives normally do an early Xmas morning hike in the mountains next to us so a clear, crisp day would be great (especially as my new camera should arrive by then) Still very much in the mix - could yet turn mild.

Another Colorado party trick, bright sunshine, and snow.
Light, lasted for about 5 minutes, but it's still quite weird to me.
Proper snow due tomorrow.
You are welcome to it! We've had 3 feet in 48 hours here and it's still going strong. Light, lasted for about 5 minutes, but it's still quite weird to me.
Proper snow due tomorrow.
I've spent the last 13 hours on I70 on a 10 mile stretch trying to keep it open.

FiF - you probably went to Grimston Garages who used to be made in Queensbury.

It’s just horrid down here in Hampshire. It’s been pissing down for weeks. It’s warm and damp. The roads are flooded, the ground is sodden, it seems like we don’t more than a couple of hours before the next load of rain piles in.
Bring on some cold and dry weather for a bit
You are not kidding, over here I think the Island is gonna sink.Bring on some cold and dry weather for a bit
I don't mind the endless rain, so long as the temps stay close to double figures or more so that the roads stay clean and not get covered in grit and brine.
On a related note, a question to our Canadian and American friends : do they spray all the roads with salt/grit and brine over there as well? I know in the Far East they don't use them, although no idea how they manage to stop their roads getting covered in ice .

depends how cold it is - there's no point using salt when its minus 20. sometimes sand/grit it spread to afford a bit of grip On a related note, a question to our Canadian and American friends : do they spray all the roads with salt/grit and brine over there as well? In canada snow clearing is an industry - they clear streets in order of priority with some warning so that parked cars are shifted (woe betide you if you didnt move yours - Dr Hook will take it away!)

They use mag chloride and sand where I am - mostly the latter. BertieWooster said:
