Lewis Hamilton Vs Michael Schumacher - Who Is Better?
Discussion
We will never know.
Car specs/rules change
Circuits change
Everything changes
Drivers used to be told to slide the car around the track.
We now have downforce.
F1 Drivers used to be able to practice daily
It is a dumb question.
We will never ever know
Anyone that says they do - is pumping out arse gravy.
The only true way to know is give both drivers an identical car - and drive on the same track in identical conditons.
And not just once. Lots of times - and different tracks, different conditions...

Impossible to compare.
that much I'll grant you.
How do you compare micheal "team me" Schumacher with Lewis "fair play" Hamilton
Lewis "have that place back bottas, even though the team are instructing me otherwise" Hamilton seems the complete antithesis to how micheal "you're my bottom beach and nothing more than a component of the my success campaign" Schumacher operated, but maybe Lewis couldn't have flourished in schus time, and his success reflects today's prevailing attitudes. This is something I was pondering earlier, listening to jenson buttons BTG podcast, and pondering the way he (and others) were royally effed in the A by sir frank and others, simply because that was how business was done.
Schumacher’s record is tarnished by the way he went about it in my opinion.
I am not what you’d call a ‘fan’ of either driver but I am pretty much ready to hand it to Hamilton because he manages to exhibit all of the hallmarks of an all-time great in terms of driving skill despite appearing to be an actual nice guy and team player.
As for the ‘different eras’ argument- I think that either of these two drivers would’ve excelled equally in the others’ era if that is what they had trained and prepared for.

All depends what better means. As JB said in an interview recently he's asked all the time who his best team mate was and the answer is totally different depending on what "best" means.
Anyway it's pointless comparing drivers from different generations and pretty pointless comparing them in the same generation in different cars as well.

Hamilton for me - he has always won without needing to put anyone in the barrier (Schumacher) or a gravel trap (Senna).
For me that is class driving (even if I'm not a fan of his hair-dos).
Again you can't compare. Who know what he would do if he was up against someone like Prost or a car as good as the Williams. Maybe he would do the same maybe he wouldn't. Who knows what Schumacher would have done in the car Lewis has had. Comparisons are just a waste. Everyones achievements stand on their own in that moment of time. For me that is class driving (even if I'm not a fan of his hair-dos).

But people are allowed an opinion........he went up against Alonso, one of the best drivers of this generation as a rookie and beat him...he also had 3 world champions as teammates with no team orders...something Schumacher didn’t
In terms of cars, Schumacher had dominant ones, with special tyres, subservient teammates and banned parts....and who knows what he would have done in a car as good as the Williams. Who knows what Lewis would have done in the cars that Schumacher had...with the teammates....I mean he’d have 2 more world titles from team orders alone ;-)
I do agree you can’t directly compare though.
Schumacher was the best of the last generation, Hamilton is the best of this generation, both have had dominant cars, Schumacher was dirty, Hamilton is relatively clean, Schumacher had a clear number 2, Hamilton hasn’t
I don’t understand why people keep saying that Hamilton doesn’t have a number two. Even in Singapore Bottas was told to do a lap 3 seconds slower than he could’ve just to let him pass and not stuck behind Albon. Last year in Germany for example or Russia. Even if a lot of you say that Hamilton doesn’t have a number two, he does. He is the best of the last generation, but the young guns are coming for his crown next year. We all want to see a 3 way WCC battle involving Charles , Max and Lewis... well at least I do

+1Bottas has accepted his well paid position as unofficial Number 2.
Mercedes also keep him on short term contracts so that he does not forget
But hey, well compensated and 2nd in the WDC, it could be worse for Bottas.
