Having bought and got sorted with a new iPhone for my wife, I'm looking for screen protectors.
What a minefield.
There's tons on Amazon and the like but everyone of them has good and terrible reviews
Is the really a decent one out there? Not expecting it to survive a nuclear attack butt according to reviews some just crack without provocation.

I use these, dead easy to fit as they come with a template, no bubbles and easy to get off if you do crack them.

Rhino shield. Have been using them on mine and the family iPhones for a few years now.

I got mine from the Apple Store. Think it's a belkin but cost about £35.

However, they fitted it using some gadget and it's guaranteed for 2 years.

I got fed up with the rubbish attempts of mine to fit one perfectly!

Same here. It's a perfect fit with the way they apply the protector, with the added bonus that if, while fitting it, there is even the slightest air bubble under the protector, they will fit another until it is bubble-free at no extra cost. I had a 1mm air bubble in the bottom right hand corner when mine was done. "Nope!", said the sales assistant, ripping it off and fitting another one.

I ordered some glass ones from eBay ... Was about £1 for 3 delivered.

They apply perfectly and being glass and minimal flex don't create bubbles.

They seem to last about 12mths before needing to be replaced

The Anker ones from Amazon are really good. Reasonable price too and easy to fit.

The ones I linked to come with a gadget.

Top tip: I picked up somewhere, fit the screen protector in the bathroom after you've had a bath, the moisture in the air keeps the dust down.

Been using Anker for the last few years so they get my vote too, cheap enough you can buy a double pack and they last for ages with a bit of care. After a bit of fiddling we're now almost a completely DIY house for mobile phone repairs after I took my 6S apart to fit a new battery and realised how easy they are to work on.

Me too. Batteries are easy to replace.

Why anyone would spend more than £5 on a glass screen protector is beyond me. Mugs game that the phone shops coin in on massively.

Carphone Warehouse fitted a screen protector to my, then new, iPhone 6 for some extortionate price and made a complete mess of it.
He fitted it whilst wet and then squeegeed the excess water out. It left bubbles which I was assured would dissipate or I could return it and they would fit another free of charge. They didn't and Carphone Warehouse refused - which was the last time I ever used them.

I tried the self adhesive, plastic covers with limited success until finding the aforementioned tempered glass.
It took me ages to work out how to fit them without air bubbles until when fitting one to my iPhone 8 I accidentally dropped it after lining it up. One hit, all the bubbles dissipated and it fitted perfectly. Now been on over a year and when the phone fell out of its holder on to a forecourt it landed on the screen and took a lump out of the protector.

Think they're about a quid or two each - sorted.

Watch this video. Its the best way to fit a screen. Most try eyeballing it into position when the backing is removed but it never works. Setting it in place first without the backing removed is the best way. I've never had one go wrong.

Yup, same cant see any point in getting the expensive ones, mine tend to get nibbled by keys in pockets.

Slightly OT can someone explain why a screen protector is needed ? Ive had iphones for years my last iphone 6s was probably 4 years old when replaced with my current iphone 8 which is 13 months old.

Ive never had any marks or scratches on either phone , just an occasional wipe down to remove accumulated fingerprints.

My phone lives in my back pocket in a clear bumper type case to protect from being dropped which i do rather too regularly. It gets chucked on my desk , regularly flies off the car set and disappears into the footwell but never a mark on the screen

Im curious why the posters on this thread need to spend money protecting their screens? Have i just been very lucky for what must be 9 years of iPhone ownership going back to my old iphone 4

I seem to have the opposite experience; on the very odd occasion where I haven't had a screen protector I've managed to get fine scratches, which is weird as I am careful with my stuff. From that I've read the latest iterations of gorilla glass are less likely to smash but more likely to scratch (ie softer/less brittle). I've used plenty of glass protectors (with a guide) but lately I've used an ArmorShield film protector as I don't like the lip that glass protectors have on an iPhone X design.

Same for me on my phone's but the wife's and diamond earrings are not a combo and wreck the screen

Funny you mention that. I am careful but not too careful and mine seems to live unscathed even after 3 years. My wife the moment she gets a new phone within a few weeks it’s scratched, etc.

Thanks for all replies, good to get some genuine reviews rather that the ones from amazon fantasists. Wonder if the apple screens are less prone, my Sony phone is scratched to buggery after a couple of years of sliding it into pockets with keys, sliding off car seats etc.
