Been on the news, sorry if there is another thread I could not see one.

What I cannot get my head around is why does football bring things like this out? I am assuming this guy, if he did what he is alleged to have done, doesn't do that walking around the streets, or in the supermarket, or at a restaurant.....

So what is it about football that brings this out? Mob mentality? well it wasn't like the whole stand was doing the alleged stuff?

I like a game of footy, and go to the odd match now and then, I may mutter a few "FFSakes" or the like, but I cant recall seeing anything in the 40 odd years I have been watching footy that would bring any latent extreme behaviour out, such as this.

Also, how naïve are people to think they are in the front row or so, by the corner flag when a corner is being taken, at the Manchester derby and no one will notice them?

Cant get my head round it!!

There was another at a league 2 match yesterday ,a Forest Green rovers fan was overheard by a linesman ,spoke to ref

who then spoke to both team managers.

The individual then got grassed on by his fellow supporters and duly removed......and banned for life.

Football fans in general just seem to be morons. Can't think of anything else.

This sums it up nicely

Because football, because .

Shocking behaviour, the players that are getting paid a fortune need to stand up and say 'Actually we don't want your money so go away and leave us to play this beautiful game all by ourselves because we love the game' Oh wait. It's a st game played by over paid athletes supported by mindless numb skulls.

So the players should penalise themselves to the tune of hundreds of thousands of pounds because of the behaviour of a minority of "fans"?

Yes, that seems fair.....

54000 in the ground yesterday, maybe a million people went to watch football. Two racists get caught being racists and you think that makes the rest of the supporters morons? Great logic.

Well, because if he did, he'd probably have been locked up by now and not be at the footy. But I concede I may be giving him some illplaced benefit of the doubt!! biggrinbiggrin

Sadly, IME, football often is the lowest common denominator.

Even at youth football games, I have seen parents behave in a way that would, literally, get you banned from a rugby club.

Not all footballists are like this of course.

Most professional footballers are, arguably, hugely overpaid and the cost of the game, for fans, has morphed way beyond ordinary working class roots.

Funny that I've only ever watched a handful of grassroots rugby union games and the behaviour of the people watching wasn't any different to that at a grassroots football match. To be honest I was quite shocked, as I had mistakenly presumed it would all be rather pleasant.

I've been to 1 live Rugby league game and sat in front of a woman racially abusing the black players on the team she was supporting. No one said a thing.

I've watched a lot of amature cricket and played golf at a reasonable level for my club and city team. Guess what? There were some not very pleasant people spectating there too.

The common denominator is dheads.

And how exactly do you come to the conclusion that footballers are overpaid? Surely they, like the rest of us get paid the most they can negotiate with their employers?

One of my kids used to be a Steward at the Etihad. Racism is far, far less common now than it used to be in the 70's and 80's

I’m glad they’ve identified the idiot.
What makes them do it?
God knows but matches like this used to be early kick offs to avoid morons being able to get themselves tanked up and what comes as a result.

Footballers overpaid? Have you seen what many successful people earn in virtually any hugely popular entertainment industry?

Incidentally, I used to have a season ticket near that corner. I moved after 1season as there seemed to be to many idiots who were more interested in goading the away fans than they were in watching the match.

Rugby League is the more ‘council’ of the two codes, however I witness/suffer abusive parents at Union weekend matches too. I coach/ref for Mini’s & Juniors which is often fun rather than competitive, but some parents get over enthusiastic and abusive to both players and officials (yep, even in tag).

I usually stop the matches and have an open chat to the parent. Normally resolves any problems smile

I was safeguarding officer for a rugby club.

I would wander around when matches were taking place and occasionally felt the need to speak with parents. Not often to be fair.

As you say, even in tag. Generally though, it was self-policing, with parents telling the person to stop. A couple of times I was called, but by the time I arrived the bloke was apologetic. If the club allows such behaviour to go unchecked, then it's not a good rugby club. There are plenty of these.

My son abandoned football as a kid because of the calls from the sideline (not me). I told one bloke 'they're just kids' and got a load of verbal and no help from the other parents. My lad went onto rugby and loved it.

I've never heard racist abuse from the sideline. We had a black player whom we called Affro, because of his . . . well, you've guessed. He loved it. The players called him that as well. We loved him. He was fast and twisty. A tragedy when he was poached.

My then team, Brighton, got a lot of homophobic (sort of) abuse from the sideline by a couple of London clubs. The refs didn't do anything.

Was recently stuck in traffic on London Road in Nottingham as the Derby fans were being escorted back to the train station following the local derby with Forest. Quite intimidating really as each other’s fans broke through the police lines to goad each other between the cars.

They probably work with each other come Monday morning but mix a bit of foot’eh with Stone Island and you is suddenly well hard.

Football seems to bring out the b3ll end in people.
