Karndean prices - what?
Discussion
Ok so we have an area of about 85sqm which we wanted fully done in karndean, having heard good things about it. The price of the flooring and the fitting scares me. Ive been quoted roughly 3800 for supply and another 2600 for fitting.
Is that the going rate? Have I been living in a cave and not realised how much stuff costs these days? Havent really laid anything myself since laminate about 15 years ago.

Have a look at https://www.bramptonchase.co.uk as an alternative, if its of any interest I can get you some discount.

Looks about right to me ... good stuff costs more money and the prep work needs to be a good quality too.Is that the going rate? Have I been living in a cave and not realised how much stuff costs these days? Havent really laid anything myself since laminate about 15 years ago.
Done properly it will make you happy and last for ages making it much better value than something cheaper.
You'll be able to shave a bit off the cost going direct if you're close enough and haggling with a fitter but the price is in the right ballpark.
Very happy with ours - first lot was 17 years old and still looked new when we took it out to refit the bathroom. We have it in all our bathrooms, refitted last summer. The areas weren't huge so it didn't feel too expensive supply or fit.
We live near to the showroom at Evesham, its good to go there and see the range and various instalations

LVT is another option, far easier fitting wise with less prep needed. Might find significant savings on fitting and it's getting cheaper as time goes by. Think karndean but a click together version like laminate. I now stick it in all my rentals Instead of laminate. Completely waterproof too.
Shop around the price varies - plenty on ebay.
I have some karndean some Amtico and some Polyflor - all effectively OTT for domestic so pick whichever suits
If you google you'll find the warranty isn't worth the paper it's written on - it's by either the fitter or the supplier NOT the manufacturer
I laid mine myself - it's hardly rocket science
I have engineered wood elsewhere and I prefer the LVT - no worry about stains and you can replace a single plank if required
I'd add that I have some next to a south facing glass door - in 3yrs its bleached, visitors wouldn't notice but I think I'll have to redo that part within 5 yrs - which is pretty poor really.

I ended up using quickstep click lvt.
I really can't tell the difference and im pretty fussy tbh. good stuff i reckon.
What winds me up is the following conversation i have had a few times with stick down floor people:
them The floors needs to be totally level.
me we do paving and landscaping, i can do the floor screed.
them it needs to be completely level though and its very specialist.
me its not going to be level though is it, what you mean is flat
them. nope it needs to be level.
me. right ok, if you pull a level line off say the front door to the back door i will almost put my life on it not being level, if you pulled a perfect level from the front of most houses to the back it would be well above or below!
Them. umm ok, well it needs to be totally flat.....
i actually enjoy winding them up to be quite honest.

Just finished my hall today...well door trims still to do
I used Wickes LVT
Went down fairly easily but going round 6 doorways it’s taken a few hours
Time will tell how good it will look in a few years
I did the downstairs cloakroom in a slightly different Wickes LVT and I’m well pleased with it

It doesn't even need that, it just needs gentle undulations - no sharp edges. If you were to shuffle over my kitchen in socks, you'd feel the undulations, you wouldn't otherwise - I used 5 bags of "self levelling" I'd have had to use 50 to get it spot on.
Mine is better than anyone else's I've come across - lets face facts, very few perfectionists are floor layers !
