Has anyone done any preparation for having to self isolate? stocked up on food? made sure accounts for food delivery etc are setup and ready? made previous for your children?

Has anyone's workplace given any guidance yet?

I bought 2 cans of beans and a tube of toothpaste on Monday so yes, I’m ready and prepared.

I also have a can of cider in the fridge in case it gets too much.

We live between AWE and Burghfield nuclear sites. We're supposed to be prepared at all times to lock ourselves indoors in case of a radioactive leak.

Sometimes we have a few tins in the cupboard, but I work from home wink

At least one school in my town is closed because they sent a school party to Italy. The children are supposed to stay at home.

Went shopping this morning and there were two under 10 children with their mother, the kids were coughing near the till, really wet loud productive coughs.

The cashier said whats this all about to the mother, the response was what else am I supposed to do, I had no food in the house to feed them for 2 weeks, and I cannot leave them in the house on their own.

I have spoken to the cashier before, he has children and I am sure he doesnt want to take any virus home.

I cleared off PDQ.

School in our village (well, since they built/are building over 1000 houses on fields and such its getting on for a small town) had sent kids to Italy on a ski trip as well. Not sure if they are back yet though, but when they are I don't think I'll be bothering with the local Co-op. We live at the tail end of the village as well with all the old people who don't go anywhere, so thats nice.

I've built a keezer in the garage and have roughly 100 pints of beer split between 4 kegs and several crates.

Plenty of top shelf spirits in the cocktail cabinet.

Chips in the freezer.

I'll be fine.

And this is why the virus will not be defeated. Everyone is looking after themselves, and not the rest of the human race.

We'll all have it soon and it won't matter then biggrin

That said we've got two freezers at home full of all sorts of cr*p (the missus never labels anything) so we won't starve but the freezer roulette will help pass the time. Unless the electric goes off....

Company issued statement to halt all non essential travel and also to limit visitors.
Disinfectant issued at various locations.
Non paid 14 days self quarantine if you have any flu like symptoms or have travelled to an affected country.

Starting to stock up on essentials for the family (water, tinned food, disinfectant, fuel, bog roll...). Aim is to survive on it for 1 month during the food and water shortage.
Also ordered protective masks with chemical filter and gloves.

I did hear that "The Cough" associated with it is a dry cough rather than a phlegmy one.

And this is the problem isn't it. It's all very well telling people to self isolate for 2-3 weeks but the reality is it just isn't going to happen. I live in a 2 bed flat with Mrs 2gins and 2 kids. We don't have enough space to store 2 weeks worth of food and in any event the kids will have slaughtered eachother by the end of day 3 and if not, another day or two and I'll have done them both.

I make light of it but living like this is pretty much the norm in major urban centres - we're doomed!

The company policy applies to any flu like symptoms.

If you meant did I carry out same prep for flu in the past the answer is no.
However we all know Coronavirus is much deadlier and way things are progressing it won't be long until we go into meltdown.

I mentioned in the Coronavirus thread in NP&E that I spend £500 yesterday on essentials at the supermarket. All stuff that gets eaten on a weekly basis so it’ll all get used in the end, even if it takes twelve months. If we had to live solely on the stuff in the cupboards, fridge and freezer I reckon we’d manage four to six weeks.

It’s not completely unrealistic to be quarantined in the house for a couple of weeks so the above is sensible planning in my opinion.

As I was doing a bit of a spring clean round the house I also did a bit of mad ‘prepper’ type stuff. Stocked up on candles, batteries for all the torches (checked the torches worked), bought three months of multivitamins for the whole family, checked my water purification tablets are all ok, ordered a ton of firewood, bought loads of charcoal for the bbq, counted my shotgun cartridges and filled the car up.

I acknowledge the above is a bit mad, but aside from the water purification tabs it’s all normal stuff that’ll get used this year regardless. In any case, depending on where you live, it’s wise to have an alternative source of heat in the house and an alternative means of cooking food - that’s already proved useful many times!
