Well I’ve been doing my bit today for the local pubs - feeling fairly tipsy which is great.

All pubs I’ve been in have been strict log into QR code sit down at table face mask to enter and walk about. Contactless payments only.
All customers I saw were having a good time / and none breaking the rules which is great news.

Had to go into town today for work, one pub had 50 -60 pissed councillists outside,

other pubs had lots outside,
am I the only one working?
I wonder how many of them are still furloughed hospitality workers that cant get back to work because their premises have no outside space so are not allowed to open until mid may through no fault of their own?
they didnt look the hospitality type
You have never seen back of house have you hehe

As a previous regular pub goer, I'm completely unexcited about the pubs opening. Let's face it, what with the sitting outside in zero centigrade, along with having to book and all the other silly restrictions and rules, I just can't be arsed anymore. No fun left to be had. Also I can imagine the first few weeks just being full of knobheads anyway. And that's before the inevitable government backtracking where they close everything down yet again. I have lost every bit of enthusiasm I once had for it.
I'm the same. I've got a lunch meeting at the local on Wednesday and a few pints at the same place with mates lined up for Thursday, but I've already got the can't be arsed feeling. Before all of this I went for a couple of pints most evenings. I don't really want to book to go for a pint, or pay 4x supermarket prices to sit in a fking tent.
I'm afraid I feel the same.

Last year I said I wasn't going to go away on holiday until holidays were 'normal' again, or as near as possible to 'normal', which means I don't want a holiday blighted by masks, social distancing, arrows taped on floors, hand sanitiser and all that sort of thing.

Same applies to pubs and restaurants. I went out a few times last year and it just wasn't much fun.

The pubs will no doubt be busy as soon as the restrictions are eased, and good for them, they deserve the trade, but I probably won't be one of their first customers.

I'll wait until it's either a really nice day and the local pub is allowing you to just walk straight into the beer garden without booking, or I'll wait until the restrictions have gone, as in properly gone.
Exactly where I'm at.
Me too. We're just letting the holiday/ents fund build up until things are back to normal, whereupon we'll spaff the lot in 12 months doing things bigger/better/more often. Although there's always the chance that by the time normality returns, we'll be buying our own island and helicopter.

Hopefully there are enough folk more charitable than me willing to keep things afloat in the meantime...

Driven through town this evening, we have around 20 pubs which normally have various levels of business, however only 3 were open that I could see.

One had 5 people outside
One had 3 people on a bench
The last had zero customers just a doorman pacing up and down on his own.

Nightlife was a massive industry here during the 90s with coaches from all over coming for the very close together pubs and nightclubs.

It dropped off a lot after mid 2000s but was working it’s way back up nicely before 2020.

I can see lots permanently closed with the ever changing restrictions which would appear set to continue for at least another 2 years.

The life has been sucked out of the whole leisure industry with pubs, clubs, restaurants and hotels seemingly up for being removed from society.

Wife bought me a hugely padded coat with a large hood for Xmas, think Alaskan Trapper type of coat, which I told her was a complete waste as I never walk anywhere, hate cold weather and just using it to go from the car on the drive to the house and vice versa seemed like overkill.

I've just arranged for a night out at the pub ( beer garden obviously) with my mate picking up where we left off prior to the last lockdown.

Wife looked at me and said " You'll be using that coat then."

One of the pubs in our local town was open serving drinks to its punters sat outside of the pub. No social distancing at all.

A couple of friends want to meet up at a bar by a marina where I live. So I went to the bar’s website to book it for Thursday afternoon. They are giving two hour slots at present. The usual rules about QR code / list sign in / numbers at tables apply, and it’s masks on when not sat down.

I'll be waiting a few more weeks, doesn't interest me to sit outside in the cold, I want to use the dukebox and the pool table.

Will have a couple of weekends boozing at the house to tide me over until May 22nd.

From last year, I can confirm it's a miserable experience - the mask thing especially.

They’ll almost certainly be removed!

Chance of cross contamination and Covid Insta death

Gyms (mine anyway) can’t have punch bags now for some bizarre reason.

Just had an impromptu pint. Daughter had football practice, so we walked up with the dog, dropped her off and then walked the 5 mins to nearby pub. Had time for just 1 as service took ages, but was nice in the sunshine and plenty of people sat outside in the beer garden.

Maybe! They were still there in September when they re-opened for a few weeks in my local, before we went into local lockdown.

Good. They need to drop this st as soon as possible and understand that social interactions at leisure places involve being close together. No one does it at the supermarkets pub workers have no chance of controlling customers.

It's all bks.

You can have a table of six people, all from different households, all sat next to each other. They then decide to swap things around a bit because their mates are at another table, so they end up mixing just the same as if there were twelve sat at one table.

In fact, you could argue that letting twelve people sit together is safer anyway as they on't move round the pub garden.

Of course this is just tinkering at the edges anyway, because any fool can see that there are vast swathes of the country with very, very low COVID levels, and people should just be getting their freedoms back right now.

I run a boxing club and prior to the last lockdown installed 10 standing kick/punchbags with full blessing of the management. Hands cleansed beforehand, own equipment used, windows open and anyone else nearby must stand behind the boxer.

I'd like nothing more than a proper session with my girlfriend and mates but I can't see it being "proper" for a long time yet grumpy

Just hoping my favourite haunts will still be around to enjoy when that time comes!

I lasted a few hours, table booked for St. Georges day next Friday, 10 of us so far*

  • Obviously another group of 4 lads we know is just gonna randomly book the same place at the same time as we do, by pure coincidence.
