Or they could be a couple of fame hungry tiktok-ers putting faked videos up to get followers and their 5 mins of fame/ build a following to monetise.

There is a large area of dense woodland near to where I grew up.
In the summer of 91 I was out riding my bike in there, riding up a very steep, narrow path, the floor of which was coated with a thick layer of pine needles, making it almost like sand to ride on.
When I got to the top I stopped to catch my breath and look back down the long, steep incline I’d ridden up.
In the distance I could see a tall, grey shape coming towards me at jogging speed. What was unusual and what scared the hell out of me was that whatever this was it didn’t have the sort of movements and swaying that a person would do if they were running. It got to about 30-40 metres away before I crapped my pants and rode off at a speed more suitable to the TdF.
A couple of years later, again on a hot summers day, myself and a mate had taken a shortcut home through those same woods.
We stopped for a rest to sit on a fallen tree in a small, narrow valley. As we were talking we saw a tall, grey object drift down through the trees, stopping briefly at the stream about 10-15 metres in front of us, before drifting back up the side of the valley again.
I turned to Mark, (my mate), and asked him “did you just see what I’ve just seen”, to which he replied he had.
I’ve no idea if what I saw on either of those two occasions was a ghost, but I do know that I’ve no idea what the hell it was, and I haven’t seen anything like it since.

That reminds me of a tale a good friend of mine told me a few years ago.
His wife was sure that she had seen her deceased grandmother in their house a few times.
My mate was very sceptical and totally dismissed it.
One night they were sitting across from each other in their living room watching tv and he saw something in his peripheral vision, he looked across and glimpsed an old lady in the doorway,
His wife immediately said to him "You saw that as well, didn't you?".
His wife was sure that she had seen her deceased grandmother in their house a few times.
My mate was very sceptical and totally dismissed it.

Not a ghost, but one incident that certainly necessitated new underwear...
Moved into a house in December. Was there myself for a week doing DIY, pulling old fireplaces out etc. After a solid 14hr shift I was sat in the chaos and it felt very cold very quickly... checked round, nothing open etc.
I then caught a shadow moving past the hall door and that was me starting to convince myself I'd disturbed the ghosts and by changing the house, they weren't chuffed so I quickly told myself to stop being an idiot and bung on a pizza for dinner
Oven in, beer opened and I went upstairs to get changed... that's when I heard the noise. Imagine a screwdriver being rattled along an old radiator. I back downstairs to investigate and nothing. So with a somewhat raised heartbeat, I ate dinner and Weng to bed... still convinced Casper would be visiting me.
I told me wife about this and she took the piss before admiring, the noise was a strange one. For the next couple of weeks it played on my mine until one evening I put the oven on and a few minutes late, same noise. However I was in the kitchen so it became apparent the noise was the fan in the oven catching the casing...
Absolutely stupid but amazing how much the mind can start playing tricks and convinced you of things and the fact the fan rubbing was a coincidence did little for my blood pressure for a few days.

We find certain things laughable even from just a few hundred years ago based on what we know now. Doctors using leeches to suck out disease etc.
Who knows where we’ll be in hundreds / thousands more years?
On the other hand of course it’s still important to have advancements in scientific knowledge & research in order to challenge preconceptions.
Me, I hope that ghost stories will be here to stay whether they’re true or not. Sometimes the truth may well be logical and proven and backed up with research and evidence... but it isn’t half bloody boring!
I think the difference between leeches and now is Scientific Method. I don't tinink we'll 'progress' to finding out that ghosts exist, but perhaps (as we've seen in our history) that loads more phenomena hitherto explained only by the supernatural will be explained via science.Who knows where we’ll be in hundreds / thousands more years?
On the other hand of course it’s still important to have advancements in scientific knowledge & research in order to challenge preconceptions.

Ghost stories are fun for lots of different reasons. But in terms of real ghosts, nah, I've never seen one, or had cause to think that anything I've seen in my life can only be explained by the paranormal. I tend to think that if I entertain the thought that something might be paranormal, then, a bit like conspiracy theories, where do you draw the line? I mean, one minute you believe the Elvis is still alive, the next that the world's run by lizards in the pay of Prince Philip or something. Or perhaps yesterday you saw that chair move, and tomorrow your attic is home to a ghostly Victorian family and headless hunting parties sally through your garden.
It does make me the one with nothing to say as it gets to that point in those evenings after a few glasses and someone pipes up about ghosts or whatever. I mean, I've never seen one, and any attempt to contribute rationality to the conversation (or god forbid, humour) will generally be unwelcome. People like their time to suspend rational belief.
