Sold a 10 year old p*ss soaked half rotten rabbit hutch on gumtree.

First person turned up within an hour, with a van and £30 cash in hand.

Must have been something special?

I think it depends on area. My area seems to be quite middle class, polite and little haggling.

The ones that come further afield from Lan-darn always haggle - something for £450 gets offers of "80" (No Hello, Thanks, just "80".

I always set conditions:
"Collection only from near M20 J7, No delivery, no posting, No couriers".

On my last sale I sold a 24" girls bike. A lady came to buy it for her granddaughter and it was a totally pleasant sale. She wanted to come back to collect it, but as I had the bike racks on my car, I offered to deliver it 2 miles down the road as I was really glad it was going to a good home, even though I said no delivery.

Facebook Marketplace is a nightmare and attracts a worse category of advertisers:

Tyres £50 with a blurry picture

Brand, size, condition, how many mm left?

If you buy or sell you have to put up with retarded people, get used to it.

We've been having a big clear out of all of our old baby stuff; clothes, toys, pushchair, car seat, etc.

So far we've received 3 messages asking whether we have any spare nappies that they can have for free!
Weird, what part of country are you

Do you have any spare btw? Need some 4+ delivered

Look at this wker here. Offers me £10 on £15 kettlebell, I agree then he say I'll give you £5. I'm surprised at how polite I was.
Anyways the next day someone turned up gave full asking for it!

Given the height of Covid when no gym equipment was available I thought I was being fair getting rid of surplus gym stuff and not charging 4x normal price!
I had it on for £15 fully expecting to be haggled to £10. No complaints when I got £15!

I agree with OP Gumtree can be hard work. I feel as though Gumtree must ask their employees to just randomly ask people if stuff is for sale and just never respond! Pi55es me right off. Every ad I place I always get a is this for sale with no follow up.

A few years ago we had a fairly decent 12x8 foot shed we wanted rid of. Advertised for £100, buyer to dismantle and collect. Got a call from someone who was happy with the price and wanted to pick it up. I reminded them of the size and said they'd need to take it down, and they'd need 2 people. No problem the guys got a van and his missus will come as well.

Later that day I see the flatbed transit pull up and 2 people inside, so all looking good so far. Guy jumps out, eventually followed by his wife who hobbles along on crutches FFS rolleyes Apparently broke her ankle a few weeks ago. If I wasn't so keen to get rid of the shed I'd have told them to crack on by themselves, but ended up getting roped in as there's no way she'd have been able to help.

Ive got a bunch of new e46 bits ive been trying to get rid of for years. I advertise them on and off on gumtree. Last time i advertised the discs which are for a 323i / 320d and i get an email asking location and condition (new, boxed) etc. Agrees to buy. Then asks to meet in a motorway services station half way which is over 100 miles away. i only wanted 30 quid.

ive given up trying to flog the osf steering arm, rear droplinks, alternator (recond), couple of bushes etc. All new too good to tip and not giving em away so whats a chap to do. scratchchinlaugh

I had a message on ebay a few days ago that said, and I quote; 'is still available...' which I assume to have meant 'Is it still available?', I sold the item in question two years ago!

I replied with; 'What's still available?' which must have confused the hell out of them as I've heard nothing since.

I sold a broken hedge trimmer on ebay recently with the above stipulation (different address laugh ) and the addition that I haven't offered a "buy it now" option because I don't want to offer a "buy it now" option.

Every single interaction was asking me if I would post it or accept their "buy it now" offer. Several people wanted to send their own courier, and I agreed that if they could find one to accept it unwrapped, I'd let them.

All for a broken hedge trimmer advertised for £30 initially.

So when someone who hadn't contacted me at all won it for 72 quid, turned up when expected and paid in cash, I was quite happy.

Not Gumtree but an eBay dhead.

Sold a new camping bag on eBay it sold on Monday night and I sent it 2nd class signed for on the Tuesday morning.and posted up the tracking.

Cue Thursday and there is a message from the eBay buyer giving me dogs abuse, 'Where's my item?' Gimme a refund?'

So I calmly point to the tracking saying it's in transit and there might be a few days delay because of course there is a global pandemic and all couriers are delayed and stretched I even sent him messages from both eBay and Royal Mail regarding delays.

Their response " Rubbish, I'm going on holiday to Somerset on Friday, if it's not here by then I want my money back"

He seems like a complete nutcase, nowhere before or after the item sold did he state he needed it by a certain day and is demanding a full refund because it arrived on Friday evening, a whole three days after he bought it. Which is good going, I've waited 7 even 10 days for some items to arrive.

Does he think I have control over Royal Mail or can phone them up and go 'Better hurry up, Kev needs it for he's weekend jaunt to Somerset'

What is wrong with people.

Sell loads and loads on gumtree, but won’t sell, PlayStations, phones etc

I’m strict on the listing, won’t post, no returns etc. But the golden rule that really works is I leave stuff in my open porch, people are asked to pop money through letter box. Never had a chancer yet. It helps that I have a couple,of cctv in porch.

I have easier, no haggling, sob stories, time wasters.

I am selling one high end tape player separate that I inherited and I Keep getting a message along the lines of “my best friend made me a tape just before they died and I have no way to listen to it. Would you take £30” the item is up for over £100

I said no, but I have a all in one tape player I don’t want, they are welcome to it for free. Never hear from them. Guessing he is an av dealer and it’s a numbers game for him

I had my unicycle on fb marketplace last week, £25.
I enjoyed all the messages... £10 cum now, best you will get... can you post it... can’t get there, will you keep hold of it.
One chap messaged, wrote well, came over, handed me the money, drove away, he is 67 and he “needed one because his mate had got one”

Ebay I only sell stuff that I’m not going to get upset if I get shafted. For example my mower broke and I decided it wasn’t worth fixing (been given a replacement) been slowly selling the odd bit here and there. Not short of cash but it’s madness to Chuck value in the bin.

Facebook, not on it and if I was I’d always worry if I sold something you might then get some looney complaining about something, contacting friends etc

Gumtree, sweetspot for me, cash and collection only. Literally amazing what people will take and pay for. Purchased our last house and there was a tonne of junk left in and outside. Most of it went for £, the best bit is when you get certain types turn up, if you tell them you have other stuff for sale they can’t resist having a look, if you tell them they can have some for free if they like, they can’t resist

I am lucky that I’ve always worked from home so free early, during lunch, then the whole evening, if I worked away it’d be tricky. Really am a fan of gumtree, but I don’t sell stuff that attracts idiots

Put a mountain bike on Gumtree on Thursday afternoon.

First reply asked all the right questions but never came back to me , followed by five messages asking if it was still for sale , replied to all of them but no one replied.

Next message was from someone who lived local , asked a few questions, then after my reply sent a message saying they’d pay me full price could I hold it for them till Friday 6.00pm .

Bloke came for it at 5.30pm and apologised for being early !

Took one look at it , I explained all the known faults , he counted the money out and off he went , full price .

Thanked them for the quick and clean purchase by message.

Wish they were all like that.

I’m sorry to inform you, this is a classic text book gypsy scam.

Whilst he distracted you a gypsy put the ghost of a dead dog up your bottom.

Bad times ahead for you
