Funnily enough, I'm trying out the aircon unit in reverse heat pump mode, toasty but noisy.

And in East Berks according to my garden thermometer it is currently 10.4c

Much nicer and cooler in here. smile

My prediction, with absolutely no science behind it, is for an Atlantic influenced mild wet and windy one.
Nah. It's gonna be a long and bitterly cold winter - I can feel it in my bones (I say this every year: I'm using the Daily Express model of 'if I say it often enough, one day I'll be right'!).

Here in Beeston (few miles outside of Nottingham) it's finally stopped raining after about 3 solid days of wet stuff! The sun is out - sort off - so I'm off for a walk around the local nature reserve. I'm interested to see how much the river (Trent) has risen in the last couple of days.

Yep. I cycle around there most weekdays to keep fit while WFH - normally about 11 miles a day.

Had a nice 6.5 mile amble with Ms Faust. Fair few people out but it wan't too bad.

Weird day here in Guernsey. Woke up to gale force winds and heavy rain. Got ready for a swim and within 20 minutes the wind had dropped to almost nothing and the sea had gone from very rough to calm albeit with a big swell. Then within an hour, back to gale force winds, torrential rain and stormy seas. It has stayed like this for the rest of the day. I gather near by France which has taken a proper battering.
You must have a friend in a very high place! biggrin
I know! Was kinda spooky biggrin

Pleasant morning on the Fylde....managed a T shirt wearing 23mile cycle ride taking in St Annes,Lytham,Kirkham,Weeton and arriving back in Blackpool just as a few spots of rain from a passing shower started to fall.

Good timing biggrin

Well, lots of berries in the hedgerows this year which is one sign of a hard winter, according to old people.

I've just spoken to my brother who lives in the South of France in Breil Sur Roya in the Roya valley.

Total devastation courtesy of Storm Alex. Luckily his house is about 1,000ft above the village and valley floor which were hit very badly. All power and water is out as are the main roads.

He had to drive out via the old mountain roads to buy provisions and get a mobile signal which is where he phoned me from. He reckons such is the devastation it is going to take months to get back to any kind of normality and years to repair the main valley road.

Sounds Awful, Colin. I know the pace of things is very slow in rural France, and I'm sure many of the residents have lost multi-generational homes.

The look of the water flowing through places reminded of when Boscastle in Cornwall was washed away some years ago.

Last snow was 29 days ago. More due Sunday, but likely to be none at our elevation.

Cold winds from the north and NW for the next few days. Frost certainly on the cards.

Meanwhile in Scotland:

A couple of quite nice days in Surrey which wasn’t entirely expected. Looks to be an ok (relative) weekend too. Can’t imagine there will be many left.

After a glorious, sun lit morning in NE Suffolk it's now heavily clouded over with rain inbound. frown
