I know a flat earther. This person is anything but thick. They are also incredibly difficult to argue with. I become frustrated and angry however hard I try to stay calm and rational so we never get anywhere. There is no getting to the bottom of the belief and why someone who has carried out some experiments with a ball of string and a spirit level is believed over a global community of physicists, astronomers and God knows who else. I do think it is comparable to religion. You cannot argue with a flat earther anymore than a devout [insert your religion here].

What I can say say is that the flat earth theory has to be linked to several other conspiracy theories to work, for example, that NASA is part of the cover up. It's comparable to people who don't believe the moon landings were real in that it would require a global conspiracy of every government, just about every scientist and anyone who worked on or near the project. This is the big difference with people who are sceptics or suspicious about things like the vaccination programme and lockdown. There were very significant numbers of people who tried to challenge the official position.

That's EXACTLY what the CT mob on the PH Climate Change threads think as well...that NASA are complicit in the great global warming swindle. laugh

I have to admit the UN bloke didn't help himself, talking about ''standing on thin ice'', the media gushing over UN scientists, without even offering both sides of the story, like proffering an alternative option, basically saying this CC stuff is all 100% firm, if feels like these groups treat people like idiots. can see why CC CTs do what they do, it does feel like a parody really. All these UN very well paid people flying all over the world having lunches etc.

What "both sides of the story" do you have in mind?

The scientific consensus is that cold is a much bigger killer than heat. Some papers report 7 times as deadly, some 20 times. This is not in any way controversial.

What is also not controversial is the increased global temp has reduced overall temperature related mortality.
You can’t possibly be this stupid.
Have you got some peer reviewed data that proves otherwise. Or do you not trust science?

It’s not my list. I disagree that fossil and nuclear should be grouped together, but that is what environmentalists do. They see wind and solar as the counter movement to the old guard.

When the reality is we should be building new nuclear plants as fast as we possibly can.

Conspiracy theory ... nah, the UK gov will outsource that. France will coin it in and some politicians will get cushy non jobs.

Nuclear's not the full answer, it's part of the answer.

Unfortunately far more misery and suffering will prevail mainly to those who can least afford it before even the mortality rate advantage for a few countries is wiped away.

It's peer reviewed. The UN published a little something about it yesterday. Or do you not trust science?

the problem with flat earthers generally is that their answer to any argument disproving it is "god" it is a pure faith argument so no sense or rational is required to believe.

The UN recommends a transition away from fossil fuels & nuclear towards wind and solar. Simple statistics has shown that such a transition has increased the cost of energy. Increased cost of energy has increased the misery and suffering of those who can least afford it.

So you clearly don't believe any other negatives will come from increased temperatures, like sea level rise, crop failures, water shortage, etc.

You're just focussed on the effects today, and screw the future - I assume you don't have children?

Increased sea level but water shortages, so we can't use desalination plants?

What I don't get, similar to the CV19 message, is blaming the individuals when it is the countries leaders and organisations that actually make the big decisions.

The UN, is the mouthpiece of the richest counties including China, who are still building coal powered plants(similar to Germany who are reactivating them), and have half of the worlds plants in their country. Wouldn't it be better to actually , you know maybe Target China in a speech, probably written by the UN members so can't.

It is very ironic really the UN criticising the people, whilst it's permeant members are the highest CO2 producers in the world, and this is where people like yourself become the mouthpiece for these organisations, when it is the leaders using people to spread a a message, they are the ones that actual change it and end up deflecting the problems.

flat earth i think is one of the thickest CTs. It seems like they can't cope with the idea that gravity works towards the centre of the sphere and not just generally 'down', so the infer we must all be sitting on top of like a disc-shaped table-top, because there has to be a 'down' even in space. Then when someone asks, why then does the earth look round from space then instead of some kind of ellipse, they just say yes circles are round duh, which basically means the feel the earth is a disc which moves instantaneously to be precisely perpendicular to any observer at any point in time, but somehow without tipping everything off like a table would, towards the mystery gravity source... elsewhere wherever it is, 'down'.

Most CTs come down to these people only having a hope of understanding (the basics of) the things that are within the very narrow band of the universe that they can see. Anything outside of that is either witchcraft, a lie, jesus, a delusion, impossible etc.

In case you didn't know, the UN is made up of more than just the richest countries.
But you don't seem very well informed on a lot of stuff.

And saying that "people like me become the mouthpiece for these organisations" : roflroflrofl

Describing these people as thick is wholly inadequate and just lazy thinking. I compared it to religion because the inability to provide any proof for the belief is identical, yet the flat earth and religous communities both contain plenty of intelligent people, whatever measure you use. Religion gets a pass as far as I can see. Mediums are ridiculed but we have an Archbishop of Canterbury and Pope who talk to God and mainstream programmes celebrating religion.

I guess you have to have everything spelling out, the richest members in the world are UN permanent members?

The mouthpiece bit, it from the many public accusations that the UN only addresses the strategic interests and political motives of the permanent members, probably why the speech doesn't talk about actual countries.

The fact China overnight could ''save the children'' by changing it policies, really shows your ignorance in this matters.

A few years old, but the same problem.

You obviously have not the faintest idea what the UN is, how it's organised, what the different parts of it are, or what it does. Your poorly spell rant is typical of CT-ers; fractally wrong.
