I was walking the dogs the other day and walked down a road I don't often go down, I spotted a van which for me is one of the most "council" things to own a modified Vauxhall Astra Van like below

anyway the houses on the road are quite nice, nice gardens etc, apart from this one house, where the modified Astra van is parked across the grass on the garden, complete with muddy tyre marks. Even though they have a drive and space outside.

Reason why I say they are council, usually driven by blokes who wear caps full tilt on their head and smoke roll ups.
Chap over the road from me (small North East Leeds village, one of the 'pricier' ones) has something similar to this, but it's a white Caddy. Diesel. And it has a modified exhaust. But.. it's diesel. And sounds ste.

And he's easily mid 40's.

Oh and he sits there revving it, before setting off or when he pulls in home. Like actually blipping the throttle repeatedly.

Speaking as the driver of a Caddy, people who mod their Caddys seem to be a trifle odd as a bunch.

Don't worry, the scene will die soon. The next Transporter is going to be an identical-in-all-but-badge Transit.

Or, Ford will sell loads of vans, and VW will sell loads of badges/grilles.

And the prices of the last 'real' VW vans will climb even higher.

While we are on the subject of pizzas.

One of my lodgers years ago in Sheffield had a Pizza Hut 12" pizza delivered EVERY WEEK DAY at 6pm for 2 years!

At the weekend he ate nothing in the day and had fish and chips/kebab after leaving the pub on Friday, Saturday and Sunday night.

He was as thin as a rake and didn't put any weight on in that 2 years.

I didn't see him cook once but he did make the occasional mug of tea.

He worked in HMV because he loved music, was degree educated and from a very wealthy family down sarf!

The most un-council person I've met but he loved pizza and was a lazy git smile

I have noticed an increase in the number of people buying the new model Transit round here. The South West is normally a hotbed of VW's, but Ford definately seem to have stepped up on the custom / big wheels / stripes front. I've seen some quite nice factory standard ones and one of our neighbours has had a camper conversion done on one that would put a California to shame at a fraction of the price. Resale value might not be VW level, but if you haven't paid the £50k + to start with, it's not so bad.

Yep. Big increase in Ford commercials around here too.

Last night, I was tailgated by a 'white with blue racing stripes' Ranger that once he decided he was going to undertake me (I was in Lane 2 appropriately due to entry to roundabout where I was turning right) I realised was called the Ford Ranger Intimidator...

Instantly thought of this thread...

My sister in law has recently done this..... a very smart Transit pop up roof conversion at a fraction of what the equivalent T5 would cost. We sold our 07 plate T5 camper for £25,000 a few years ago (having paid just over £20,000 as an ex show vehicle from one of the UK’s best known conversion businesses. Today, you’d be looking at £40,000.....

Could be worse, could be called the Ford Ranger Penetrator.

I have to admit to looking at them briefly the other week as I’m trying to find a 4x4 shed for lugging crap about when I move house.

It's OK. It's not council...

It's "bespoke" and sold by a purveyor of "prestige" vehicles.

Opening a book of condolence in the local paper after some scally pancaked himself riding a quad bike through the city centre.

The T&A are notorious for these books of condolence, after promising young footballers drill themselves into a tree at high speed.

There's a dealership in my town that only sells identically tarted up Transporters - all with the same bodykit and big wheels and painted in any colour but white.

I suspect the Transporter is the only vehicle that you can add value by modifying it.

There's quite a few places round here doing. T5.1 front end, rock n roll bed, couple of Quiksilver stickers and you've doubled its value.

Let's find a nice, loving photo for his book of condolence
