At the ripe old age of 43 i've been offered the chance to re-live my somewhat mad and uncontrolled youth!
Cagiva Mito 125! I had one when i was 17 and felt like king of the road, or of the 125s anyway! I've come across an early unrestricted 7 speeder with the Ducati 916 styling, totally restored in 2016 by a fanatical 2 stroke guru and tuned by the son of Stan Stephens, apparently. 35 bhp. 125 kgs. 7 gears. £4,500.
I thought the price was a little high but with Yamaha FS1E mopeds fetching up to £7,000, is it that bad?
Would you ride a 125 again?

Sounds mouth watering to me ! I certainly would! There's a few 125 owners on here..and plenty of middle aged enthusiasm elsewhere to buy and use them...

Yep. Sounds nice.

Lots of us oldies like small bikes. But don't expect it to feel quick if you are used to big bikes. So it depends on what you want from it.

Tjey were slow originally, now I'm older I'm twice the weight I was (ok 50% more), so they'd be even slower, so not for me

We have a 125 Mito as well as the Ducati and I am somewhat older than you, it's brilliant.

They are hard work to ride fast as you have to red line in every gear to keep it in the power band but then you're not into licence losing speeds if you do so it doesn't matter that much. They are also quite roomy for a 125, I'm 5'10" and never felt cramped.

There's a good facebook page with lots of knowledgeable people and they'll tell you all about bunny ear airboxes and carbon reeds if you're interested

It's not a yellow one with a Mitaka barrel is it?

I would. In a heartbeat,
Not as an only bike, but I’d like one in the garage.

No

I'm all for thrashing the living daylights out of something but I'd struggle to find much enthusiasm for much less than 50bhp

My old RD125LC was hilarious, i managed to get a 200cc kit from a guy in Scotland then had it tuned by Terry Beckett.

That thing went like someone had lit the blue touch paper and fked off sharpish. Lad i sold it to when i bought my 350LC chucked it under a lorry apparently, shame as it was a hell of a bike and Red like BN's

If I have to commute regularly into London again I can see me going for a Super Soco, so yes. Not a geared 125 petrol though, maybe a scooter.

Ran a bsa bantam 175 (alongside a fireblade) back in the day. Loved scooting around on the bantam, you pick the roads to suit the machine. If only it were more reliable I would have loved to take it for multi day camping trips.

Whilst not a race replica, I had a go on a 4 Stroke 125 a few years ago. It felt dangerously slow.

I loved 125 Race Replica’s back in the late 80’s and early 90’s when I was a teenager. Stick to grown up bikes.

Possibly. Would have to ride one. I had an RS250 and loved that but it was only just powerful enough - overtaking on country roads wasn’t straightforward (compared to big bikes). Something with half the power might be too much of a drop.

Still, if just an addition to a collection and saved for the odd sunny day, why not?

I'm expecting it to feel very gutless low down, but fun. I've had several almost 200 bhp bikes and yeah, the 125 will seem weak.
But on the other hand it's been blue printed and stage 2 tuned by a good 2 stroke tuner, with 35 bhp on the dyno, it only weighs 125 kgs, which will help and the close ratio 7 speed 'box will hopefully help keep things buzzing. The bike currently runs a tooth less at the front for less outright top end and more zing below the new top speed of about 90 mph. The bike comes with 3 sprockets, geared for circa 90, 100 and 110 mph at peak revs. Which 35 bhp should pull okay.
I was 9 stones 13 pounds when i left school at 16 and weighed 11 stones exactly this morning so thankfully not too much lard for the tiddler to haul around.
I think i'll go for it. It's in red.
A good comparison is the Yamaha RD250LC. 37 bhp, so a couple of bhp more, but 15 kgs heavier and no fairing. Probably a great race in the making?

Exactly that, a fun addition and some nostalgia. Hopefully will rise in value too. I never get why anyone spends £6000+ on a sports moped but they do.
