Does anyone else just not give a st about Glastonbury?

It goes on every year, do we really need hourly news reports on it

And the usual news articles showing the millions of tents and tons of crap left behind after. Give a day or two, they'll come.

How many times a day do you need to watch/listen to the news?

Feral youths who all know their rights and that they are 'untouchable'. I know each town/city has them, but by eck they seem to get worse by the day. We've got them running riot in town, jumping on the roof of the store by the multi storey car park ( please please fall and become a splat on the precinct).
2 weeks ago my husband intervened to stop a guy getting a pasting, resulting in a fractured eye socket for his troubles (no good deed goes unpunished eh!) He's waiting on surgery (hopefully tomorrow) with no guarantee it'll fix it properly. It's life changing as he is a truck driver and kinda needs both eyes working properly.

Scrote that threw the punch is 15 years old. I'm just hoping one day he runs into the wrong person and ends up a bloody pulp.

Wrong thread, your annoyance is well founded.
Hope the op goes ahead and he makes a full recovery.

I'm with you on this. Apparently Glenda Thunderbird and Billy Eyelash were there preaching.

The BBC has paid handsomely for the rights, so now absolutely has to convert that investment into eyeballs watching. I'm sure it's nothing to do with the luvvies wanting a free pass to the festival and access-all-areas passes for friends and family.

By reporting it, they hope everyone thinks its of national importance and won't question the cost.

How many people watch it though? Too early for this years figures I guess but google suggests over 3M viewers for some of 2019's Glastonbury, which puts it among the top rated TV shows, with similar figures to the big soaps and recent England football matches. both of which I'm a lot less likely to watch than Glastonbury but accept that a lot of other people like them.

ETA: Actually that's about double Eastenders figures, I hadn't realised that was so far behind Coronation Street

Had a break in last week, snapped the euro lock on the back door along with the handle.

Thankfully had a spare lock and handle so could fix things rather than bodge it but now looking to replace the handles and lock for more secure ones, which brings me to my massive annoyance.

The door being an older one means you can't get the secure handles as they've changed the spacing of things and it appears no one does the "PAS 24" ones in the 70mm PZ as they're all now 92mm PZ.

Equally it appears you can't get the secure "three star" Euro cylinders in the correct lengths, either too short "internally" or too long "externally".

While sure I accept that an older UPVC door isn't as secure as a more modern one just a modern handle and lock would upgrade the security to the point that you've got to pretty much destroy the door to get in. It would seem somewhat of a no brainer to sell upgraded security hardware for older doors, yet you can't buy any.

Sure I'd like to replace the door but that's a massive cost vs ~£60 in handles and a lock if the lock was 22mm further away!

The BBC News at Ten presenters have started getting up an wandering around the studio.
Just sit down or stand still.
Irrational but it makes me shout at the TV.
Reminiscent of the early years of Channel 5 News when they wanted to be seen to be doing things differently.

The likes of Charlie Stayt, Rob Butler and Kirsty Young sitting on the desk and not behind one.

They or the press (can't remember which) actually made a massive point of that.

Along with Channel 5's marketing gimmick of 'news on the hour, every hour', they tried to make it all seem revolutionary.

I also am not entirely sure if my memory serves be right, but weren't these formats of news presenting spoofed? It could have been Dead Ringers.

Needless to say, the present format of TV news and TV scheduling are relics of the past.

News is available at any time we like, without needing to be tied to a scheduled flagship bulletin with the addition of Nick Robinson or Laura Kuenssberg and their 'irony' infested punditry on today's goings on in Westminster which always end seem to end with the same wry question of whether the Prime Minister will make survive another day.

If it's raw footage of something then the YouTube is awash with it.

As for the TV schedules: if you want to watch a lion hunting a zebra or a cobra taking down a deer then you can probably get unedited footage of that on YouTube without needing to tune in to the likes of some obscure, advert-infested digital TV channel simply to have the entire thing drawn out over an hour with percussion instrument music attempting to create a feeling of suspense and dozens of edited cuts of the footage, all narrated over by someone speaking with an ominous tone yet sounding incredibly patronising as though the audience really is that thick to not be able to suss out what's going on in the montage.
Bring back news bunny I say.

Blast from the past - over twenty years ago. An acquaintance at the time but her name eludes me.

That IMO is total bullst. It will be a summation of all replays, streams, youtube views etc. Even if it was anywhere near the truth, it would only be mostly the people that actually went, watching the event when they’re back home.

Dreadful middle class utterly anodyne experience. The crowd are so brainwashed and simple they would cheer Stalin on stage reciting Humpty Dumpty.

Diana Ross and Paul McCartney were some of the big acts there FFS! Really, it's 2022 and they are STILL some of the biggest acts?

I'd be appalled if I spent what £300 on a ticket and found they were the 'headliners'. Nevertheless, some lap that stuff up. Look at the current success of all the 1980s retro (acts) festivals.

I know loads of people who have been watching it, both live and on iPlayer.
Apparently lots* of complaints about McCartney's set being shown an hour later rather than live too.

* of course no news outlets seem to to say how many complaints there were, it could be just half a dozen very vocal people on twitter given the way most news sites report stuff these days

Because the McCartney/Ross fans are the only ones who can afford the ticket prices. Loads of newer bands playing the smaller stages and loads of thier fans watching the coverage on TV

But the key (sorry) issue in his post is the lack of PAS24 spec products in the size required. Out of interest I had a look at a couple of suppliers where I've previously been struggling to find handles and door furniture in sizes to match existing kit but they had come up with the goods. Yes both had choice in the sizes but not to the upgraded security spec.

Also just by way of personal experience, B&Q look as if they have a lot of choice, but quite limited away from what are now the most common sizes.
