Hi all thought I’d ask on here as I didn’t get any replies in the Mercedes section.

I wanted to gauge your opinions and any ownership experiences on the previous model A class A250 sport. Looking at 2013-2018 models. I am also potentially considering a Mk7 Golf Gti and was wondering which would be the better buy. Either would have to be manual but there are not many A250 manuals for sale as you can imagine but I do like the rarity factor.

Currently I drive a 2015 Ford Focus 1.5 petrol and would like to upgrade to a more upmarket hot hatch hence the Merc or the GTI smile

Out of those two, I'd go with the GTI. However, I'd also probably look at some of the alternative hot-hatches at this price point too.

I haven't owned either so cannot give any ownership experience but following the post above, may also be worth considering a Leon Cupra. More power than both, very similar level of tech and probably cheaper to buy and own

Any particular reason(s) you’d pick the GTI?

That’s a good shout but I’m not a fan of the Leon styling/interior.

Just a good all-rounder. Not particularly exciting, but can still be fun on the right roads. A lovely place to be with a decent turn of pace. A decent choice as a do-it-all car.

My advice is drive both.

The A250 doesn’t really get much mention or reviewed highly so maybe isn’t a fair comparison.

I’d imagine the GTI is the better car in most areas without much hassle except for the fact it doesn’t have a Mercedes badge and holds its money better so cost more.

Also support checking out other hot hatches especially the 308GTI I found it was really good quality and suppose to be a great drive.
