Off the back of the "Expensive things you bought but don't like" how about "Cheap things you bought and DO like."

£40 waffle maker that gets used without fail once a week to my surprise. I make protein waffles with it and have them with peanut butter and raspberries.

Two things that are now invaluable.

My Astra cabrio has pathetic rear vision when the hood's up.
So, far Eastern tat was acquired in the shape of a reverse beeper kit
and a rear view camera. The first RVC was one of those mirror ones
and that croaked in 3 months so now, I've a dashcam with a rear view
camera. Worth every penny - and the wait for the slow boat.

Pug 306 estate. Bought for £600. Ran off whatever you put in the tank. Sold 25,000 miles later for £750.

Ford Focus, Mk1, cost £3k back in about 2008. Went places it never should have, including extraditing itself from a snowy field after some youthful ambition>talent episode.

Hotel Chocolat Velvetiser.

Got it on launch as a package deal and it’s been used everyday for the past 2.5yrs for at least 2 drinks per day

My current BBQ from B&Q. , it was in their sale for about £39 from £200 IIRC - built and tried it and was really impressed. Went back and bought 2 more and 2 fitted covers (for peanuts) and they were even reduced slightly further.

I’m on the second one now and dreading when the third gets to being on it’s last legs.

I make a point of only buying 'good' products, and absolutely despise cheaping out when it's pointless to do so. If I ask to borrow some sticky tape at someone's house and they hand me some poundland bullst tape that doesn't stick, or goes yellow in 5 minutes then I'll regrettably have to end the friendship.

So cheap things I've bought recently that I do like;

- A staedtler pencil sharpener - £2
- Bryant & May Traditional Extra Long Safety Matches - £3

I know less than absolutely nothing about guitars, is it a Chinese fender copy? I have read some of them play quite well, in fact better than supposedly well established mainstream brands at similar prices.

Wolf Blass Vineyard Reserve from Asda. Five quid a bottle, worth five times that, absolutely delicious.

It's an Ibanez SA360.

Ibanez were founded in Japan in 1908, and the SA360 is a Fender Strat "type" shape but has an "arch-top" body as opposed to a flat top body of a Strat. It also has different pickups to a Fender, in a different combination. To play, it is a very lovely thing.

Was in the market for a mountain bike for winter riding, specifically didn't want something too dear that I'd end up being precious about.
Giant Fathom 1 29er. Love it. Cheapest bike I have bought in ages and now my preferred bike!

I think a lot of it is down to expectation. The Look 695Aerolight was awful, but I expected it to be amazing.

Cheers. I realised many years ago I don't possess the hand stretch for normal guitar playing, however, I've a long-standing predilection for a bass guitar, and there appears to be some very affordable bundles with this brand, which I was unaware of, until now.

Cheap is relative, I suppose. I’d consider nearly £1700 to be above mid-market for a bicycle.

Thanks for the recommendation though - like the look of it!

Interesting thing to make in to a garden. Is it laid mainly to lawn or do you grow vegetables on it too?

I have an Ibanez SR300 bass which was around £250 from Dawson’s, it is a great instrument, made by Soundgear under license, quite versatile and lots of fun. Websites like www.songsterr.com make learning new songs easy

The RoughNeck range of mini mattocks, mini shovels are our tools of choice when we do digging in caves and mines. When you're in a tight passage, full sized tools are rubbish. And they are tough. I don't think anyone in our group has broken one.

A 30 quid coffee machine by Salter. Makes espresso, froths milk and can break after 20 coffees and still leave me ahead versus Costa.

A £900 Audi A4 1.9tdi. Comfy, reliable and cost buttons to run. One of my favourite cars.
