That's taking things to extremes, well done, but it's not for me.

I'm 2 years younger than you ...... you say
"I'm fitter now than I've been in a decade, and possibly even in the last twenty-five years."

For someone who never done anything exercise related until my early 40's I'd say
Sign up for something .. challenge yourself .. you've done the lifestyle change .. reap the rewards thumbup

Have to agree with our new guest. I am older by miles, than both of you, yet, I'm still 'challenging' myself, albeit it gets more difficult as one ages but if the will is there, etc., etc....

Next stop, West Scotland sailing solo and I'm damned if I don't achieve it and possibly further afield! Always wanted to visit the Faroe Is...

Get out there and do it, you're only here once! smile

Here endeth the lesson!

Yes I'm happy to agree with that P.
Although circumstances etc can be that it just can't happen for some.

But if one has an ambition then it's worth working towards it.

Indeed, and I am maybe guilty of over-egging the possibility pud!

Nonetheless, everyone needs to set a challenge for themselves whether it be simply walking further every day or a mental challenge combining both, orienteering for example?

Anyway, enough of that, this place is all about having a jovial chat and handing out parking fines!

More than likely old boy.

Have a word with Dr Gleadle. It's all on record somewhere.

I'm happy to keep challenging myself, but physically I don't want to spend more than about 40 minutes a day doing it. Happy to work hard during that spell, but would rather work harder than longer.

...more importantly, I've just had a delightful cassoulet which really hit the spot after a Sunday that's been busier than I'd like.

Paua! Do you have your own pitch for fishing the whitebait? With a shed?
Is it still only a third of the river's width you can catch? Something like that I seem to recall.

Don't worry about the fitness deterioration chap! I just plough on and take no notice of it. Yes it hurts and I do less hours but still go for it when graffting.
I look at it as keeping me fit and strong along with the dog walking.
Mornin' Chaps
No shed/ stand. Just head down to the mouth of the river with my net & waders. Last season of the current regs. Next season has the best month (Nov) amputated. Starts mid Aug, but not really worth bothering here b4 Oct, when the water temps start to get a bit more friendly.

Back from a particularly enjoyable steak meal with friends, I've just had my first ever T-bone steak, and it was a most joyous thing!!! lick

I agree with and understand the whole pushing yourself thing, I did it a lot when I was bodybuilding back in the late 80's early 90's, I did it again around 2000, and I know I should push myself now, but I suffer horrendously with lactic acid in my muscles which I now hate the feel of.

When I say .."Challenge yourself"
Sit down & let me tell you a story,

I was volunteering with parkrun https://www.parkrun.org.uk/
parkrun is a free Saturday 5km (3 mile) run / walk event
I was the 40 minute pacer and we were about a mile in and I was encouraging a .. cough large older gentleman .. to keep going,
He said something that I didn't quite catch but it was either "I've smoked 40 a day for years" or "I've smoked for 40 years",
Honestly it could have been both but I had the upmost admiration to him for getting off the sofa and putting on some trainers to plod around a park on a cold Saturday morning,
That's proper 'challenge' yourself,

Anyway we digress,

Totally trivial but I'm off to bed early as I start my new employment tomorrow ...

I hope the birthday evening isn't over yet Bobbers .. nudge nudge wink wink

Well that's not the start to the day I was hoping for, our maintenance team have done a PM on my usual machine, which I'm back on for a day and a half, more on that later, and I've come in this morning to the machine and the floor in front of it covered in swarf and oil!!! rage
So my working day has started with a complaint to my T/L and having to clear up someone else's mess!!! grumpy
The reason I'm only in for a day and a half is I have a Covid test tomorrow at 1040hrs and then have to isolate until I have endoscopy on Friday morning.
