Quite what we'd race him against is anyone's guess. It's a start, though...
Stone me that conjured up an instant flash back to the very early '70s for me - on a family visit to see my Nan in Hammersmith we all trouped along Chiswick High Street to do some window shopping when along comes a huge BBC lorry with a camera on the roof, followed by Harry H. Corbett, Hercules the 'oss and the old rag 'n' bonen cart! I've got the Steptoe & Son box set somewhere, must dig it out and see which episode they were filming that day wink

"Why are you watching that old Steptoe box set, Nij?"

"Well..."

You might laugh old chap, but can you imagine trying to explain it to someone who's reasonably sane?

"Right, there's an old manor house in Middle England, okay? On an old airfield..."

Gosport, old boy. Gosport. I went there once, or somewhere close anyhow.

Hovercraft thing came up the beach whilst I was eating an ice cream. Frightened me to bloody death, and I was used to working with fighter bombers at the time.

Explains it all, really.

True old chap, very true, i'm going to hazard a guess you were either (e before i) on the front at Southsea or possibly but not as likely, by the Hovercraft museum at Lee-on-the-Solent!!!

Something VERY similar happened to me Bomma! In the same place! Although I ended up on the island across the way helping pull an old land rover up a cliff!

Spiced rum and Cassis is my late night tipple so far.

That'll be the Isle of Widget Wight, across the Solent, they say that if you can see the Island then bad weather's on the way, supposedly there's a secret tunnel all the way across to the island, but no one will admit to it!!!!

Bon Anniversaire Bobbers.

What style of cake are we going to enjoy?

Maybe one in the shape of a Fockus?

Additional trivial flashback alert - the very same thing happened to me at Southsea back in 1977 during another family visit via that London, we all set off down to the coast from Hammersmith in my Grandad’s Mk1 Granada estate in the pouring rain to see HMS Victory and went along to Southsea for soggy fish & chips, there I was minding my own business at the top of the concrete ramp when this huge great thing came up scaring us all half to death. The noise was incredible!
