Stand-up Comedy
Discussion
an anti-woke blogger on u toob has embarked on a marathon
quest to find [ mainly US and OZ ] feminist stand-ups that can make him laugh,
just once, that's all, a killer gag, up to now none have said anything
to crack his stoney-face.
he's probably being a nob, but has he a point, is it all man hating, piercings and periods ?

If your arms are folded and your mind is set then not a lot is going to change that really is it? Including this post of mine, obvs.

In the past week I have seen Jack Dee's tour, which was absolutely excellent; and Alan Partridge - which was very good, though obviously not stand up.
We have Alan Partridge on Friday - really not sure what to expect, booked it on a whim what feels about 3 years ago.Clockwork Cupcake said:

Felt like a cross between an episode of KMKY and one of the audio books. Decent entertainment - and solid performance. Hope you enjoy it, good way to start the weekend!

Hopefully he's watched Gina Yashere. Which is all the confirmation bias he'll ever need. I enjoyed my heart surgery more than I've ever enjoyed anything she's ever uttered.
That's fine if you just don't like her comedic style, rather than don't like her because she's a woman. Or because she's black. You know? It's fine to have a preference but it's not fine to have a prejudice.
That's the key thing here. This guy is setting out to "prove" [sic] that women aren't funny.
This is worth a watch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D8hTE_PZlnI
Tom Houghton currently lives in the Tower of London and is the son of the former Chief of the Defence Staff.
His story of running away from home in IRA era Belfast is wonderful.

I saw it at Nottingham a couple of weeks ago. Very good. Did yours have random audience members shouting “DAN!” before the performance and during the interval? I know why they were doing it, but thought it a bit odd at the same time.Hope you enjoy it, good way to start the weekend!

Saw John Bishop last night. Relatively small venue (400-500 people maybe) in what was supposed to be a warm up for the big show he's just done but has been postponed for nearly 2 years due to covid. Really nice atmosphere, rather than a big polished show it was just him sat on a stool telling some stories and riffing off the front row. First time I've seen him other than on panel shows, would definitely see him again.
John Bishop did the after-dinner and awards ceremony at a Waste Management event years back, just before he broke through. Most of the comics that do that type of circuit do a few topical jokes to start, roast someone everyone there knows and then launch into their standard set. Bishop did 30 minutes of stuff that he could have only made up on the night. He was utterly brilliant.Went to see Dara O'Briain at the King's Theatre in Southsea on Wednesday - absolutely hilarious and the best proper belly laugh I've had in ages.
In fact the only downside was the seating, which didn't have much legroom (I'm 6'3") and the fact that I was seated next to a big unit. Not only did he overspill into my seat considerably, he also got hotter and hotter, and smellier and smellier as the evening progressed.

I have this problem too, it's a significant issue in theatres etc: they arent built for modern people - it has taken away from my enjoyment of many performances. I moved seats in the interval at Alan Partridge to a st view but with lots of empty spaces, and booked Jack Dee at a venue miles away so I could get an aisle!

Booked to see him in January, in a brand new theatre that has sensible amounts of legroom In fact the only downside was the seating, which didn't have much legroom (I'm 6'3") and the fact that I was seated next to a big unit. I don't like her because she's about as funny as Mrs. Brown's Boys. Her gender/colour don't come into it.
And that's totally fine. To be absolutely clear, I was not in any way implying you meant anything but that.
My point was that in setting out to prove women aren't funny, that guy is starting from a place of prejudice. Same if he was setting out to prove black people aren't funny (I can't see that going well. LOL)
