The Met office tells me we'll have 21 centipedes today
I had a pet centipede once. When I returned the parrot under complaint - it didn't talk - the chap in the pet shop suggested I tried a talking centipede instead. I was a bit doubtful I have to say but one doesn't wish to appear distrusting. So I took it home in its little vivarium and it didn't say anything. It didn't say anything all afternoon either. After tea I was a bit fed up so I told the centipede I was going to the pub and asked if he wanted to come. Nothing. I got to the door and called back, "I'm going now. Last chance." He called back, "I'm putting my boots on."

Great stuff, spikeyhead.
Chuck 'em on the barbie, they'll go grate with the venison.
I love venison, paua, but unfortunately over here it's dead deer.

Sorry, I'll come back in and try again. wink

Elbow Test results are in, and it's a negative reading, so here we go:
Good morrow Trivytalites! wavey
Yesterday afternoon and evening was a continuation of celebrations for Daughter #2's 40th, being the date of her actual birthday.
We had a jolly evening sitting in the sun, drinking with a bit of moderation and discussing world travel plans.
Son-in-laws parents, Grandad Ayex and Nanna Nonnica, have just returned from a trip to Noo Yoik, their favourite city, but they were bemoaning the fact that everything has now become very very expensive since covid frown
I suggested Kigali might be cheaper, but probably lacking in atmosphere and ambiance. Also Phnom Penh may have cheaper hamburgers and tastier duck, but without the pretzels.
I also told them about my awful experiences in Turkey.
It was a most pleasant evening, watching the kids playing happily in the back garden and watching the sun go down.
Daughter #1 gave us a lift back home before dusk fell - I hate getting covered in dusk - and I cooked a couple of salmon fillets, minted baby spuds with butter, and a nice salad.
Afterwards I fell asleep watching the news channel, and woke up at 01:30hrs and decided it was time I went to bed.

And so here we are, it's Tuesday already, for which we must thank Bomma.

Thanks Bom! thumbup

Magoo, try not to overdo it. nono
I know you're still only young, but it's easy to get complacent at that stage.
I hope poor Mavis's wasp sting isn't too painful for her, poor little doggie.

Today I'll be mostly trying to remember something important that I'm supposed to be doing... scratchchin

Nope.

I'll make a nice cuppa, see it that helps....

It's really cheap when your neighbour brings a back wheel over, that he shot a couple days ago. We're far enough away from th monarch that nobody worries about taking th king's deer or th consequences thereof.

Tell me about it, fatboy. This is why it's important to get payment up front.
With friends like that, you don't need any enemas. irked
Supposed to be leaving for Classic Le Mans early Thursday with my son, who's just dropped out because his wife came back from Glastonbury with Covid! Looks like I'm on my own in the car, but at least camping with friends.

My youngest lad and his girlfriend were at Glastonbury. They used the tickets they bought for 2020 that were deferred. Since then they were joined by a baby - our Granddaughter #2.

Yup basically the same, only she left our 1 year old granddaughter behind with my son, went off with her girl friends. All have come back positive...
Time to get your lad and girlfriend to test?

Funny you should say that, Byker. They were going to drop in for tea on their way back but I had a text from my lad saying they'd mixed with hundreds of thousands of folk for a few days and could we meet up in a fortnight or so instead. Just in case.

That's bad luck, Byker. frown
Glastonbury was always bound to be a covid superspreader event, as will all the other festivals and gatherings now going forward, because people have just assumed it's safe to do whatever now, have completely dropped their guard, and are not taking sensible precautions.
Sadly, there will inevitably be further spikes this summer and autumn.

One thing that made me chuckle after we landed at Loo Nairpaw was the cabin announcement to "please respect the other passengers' health and safety by ensuring social distancing" as we disembarked.
This was after close to 300 of us had all been cooped up together in the big A320 tin can for almost 7 hours, rebreathing the same recycled air whilst sitting rubbing shoulders and with minimal spacing between the rows of seats.
All the Omicrons must be having a right old laugh...

Enjoy your trip to Le Mans Classic, remember to brake for the chicanes along the Mulsanne, and keep it sanitary! wink

Talking years ago to an old boy who raced at Le Mans in the 30s. When he said he'd broken down on the Mulsanne miles from the pits I asked what he did.

"There was nothing for it, so I walked to l'Auberge des Hunaudières and had a beer."

That was a great place to be back in 1988, with the Silk Cut Jags hammering past at 250+mph, sucking the air out of your chest as they went by...

That was one of Life's WOW!!! experiences... woohoocloud9bow

Then the ACO decided to have the two chicanes installed...

The D types were timed at 180 in 1955. Hawthorn and Fairman I think. Open top.

It was actually Roger Dorchy in his own Peugeot-engined WM "Project400" that took the all-out record in 1988.
They ran the obligatory qualifying, and did a few laps after the start of the race. Then they brought the car into the pits, waited until the cool of the evening, sent the car out for a warm-up lap and brought it back in again.
Then they taped up all the vents and louvres to make the car as aerodynamically efficient as possible and sent it out to try for their aim: To break the 400km/hr barrier down the Mulsanne Straight.
They were timed at 405km/hr through the speed trap.
Success! With the engine cooked, they wheeled the car into their pit garage, and the whole team went off to the bar to celebrate their success.
Mission accomplished! beerbeerbeer

The chicanes were installed in 1990 because the FIA decided they would no longer sanction any circuit with a
straight longer than the longest straight on the Nurburgring Nordschleife.
Also it was considered necessary to limit the top speeds after Martin Donnelly's lucky escape after a full back-flip loop in his Sauber-Mercedes as he passed over the crest of the slight hump on the Mulsanne and suddenly lost downforce. Plus there had been quite a few fatalities along it's length.

An idea of what it used to be like to drive down the Mulsanne:

Nice tales of times gone by there chaps.

I'm back from the morning's effort. Two trailor loads of broken out concrete, out of the cellar and up into the trailor and dumped at the council tip.
Around 4 ton or thereabouts.
Only the two Tshirts soiled and soaked.
More of the same tomorrow.

I may have mentioned that the European bow hunting championship is going on all around us this week. Around 1,200 competitors. My village is the host village and its rammed!
Where I'm work is at the foot of that there old Chateau and part of the course is there.
Around 8.30 am I had a visit from two of the orginiser's and was asked will I be long filling up my trailor as competition is about to start and I'm parked in the middle of it.
Don't worry I won't run anyone over I said, they mentioned that the arrows sometimes go abit of target.
Why are you holding part of it in a inhabited village then was my reply.Nice chaps but were lost for words after that.
They mentioned about barriers at the end. Don't worry I will move them when I need too was my reply.
Have a nice day.
Sweat was pissing of me and I was drenched and steaming at the time,so they thought better of continuing the exchange I think.

Nice n sunny here today.
