Wordle - Query re different words on same day

Really pissed off this morning.
I "discovered" Wordle 26 days ago and it has become part of my daily routine . I've been pleasantly surprised and a little bit proud of myself that I've got them all with an average of about 3.5...until today... my first failure ... what a kick in the guts ...not sure if I want to play anymore.

That's exactly the comment I got from Wordle when I failed... b

I had it down to a choice of two words on my last go, I did an eeny meeny and got the wrong one.

I had 4 green letters after two attempts (1,2,3,5) and only just got it. Last chance was one of two possibilities and I guessed right.
I had 3 green on my first go then worked out I had at least twenty possibilities to choose from. Took three more goes to get the 4th green, so one guess left for the last which I got wrong.I play it on the "hard" setting, don't know if I would have got it on the "easy" setting either though.

Last line guess here too.
Why is the last letter left always the one that could be anything? I've had the same thing a few times now, I had a fail a few weeks ago (I think) when I had STO*E, that blank could make it store, stoke, stole, stove, stone... It annoyed me at the time and I can't remember which one was the right word now

Do you all play with hard mode on so you have to play previous letters that are in the word? If I get to two lines to go and there is possibility of 3 letters I just play a word with those 3 letters to make sure I get it. For example I played MOVED today
Yes I turned hard mode on, when I started playing Wordle I had no fails for a month, turned on hard mode and had a fail within a few days, and I like it that way.Nimby said:

I got it OK. My two "openers" (OPINE and MAUVE) netted me three letters. By guess No 3 those three were in the right place, and I suppose I was lucky that guess No 4 was correct. I've had several attempts recently where I've only just got it with my last guess because there have been more possible answers than Wordle lines for a given partial answer. I'm still annoyed that it breaks my "streak" on days when I can't access it. I know it's deliberate - to push people into opening the site every day - but it's annoying when I didn't get it wrong, I just didn't get to open the puzzle.
Chuffed to get Worldle in one guess the other day though. A country made up of loads of islands came up, and I slung PHILIPINES in as a guess, expecting to have to zero in on the answer somewhere more obscure, but right first time. I don't think that's happened since one of the big, obvious countries like Australia came up..

I don't play Worldle but I saw a lot of stuff one day a few weeks ago when it was Monaco, and it's basically the shape of the track and docks
I was disappointed today because I got it in 3 guesses. I quite enjoy spending time over my morning coffee trying to get the answer. It was only when I sat there proud of myself that I realised I'd got lucky because there were a lot of potential answers.
It makes up for 35 days ago when my streak came to an end despite having 4 letters early on.

Sometimes Worldle is difficult even cheating with a map.

First fail in 81 days today... one of the classic ones where I can't think of another word it can possibly be until I find it's not that...I "discovered" Wordle 26 days ago and it has become part of my daily routine . Failed Worldle too, I knew exactly where it was but could not remember what it was called. I've managed 18 on the first guess out of 57 attempts so far, can't complain.

Not sure how many languages it's in but I have double the pain/pleasure doing it in Welsh as well - somehow more difficult as we have (despite popular belief) two extra vowels (W and Y) but fewer consonants (no Q, X, Z, K and V).
How does that work with FF, DD, CH, etc? Do they count as one letter or as two? I wish I'd kept up my Welsh lessons now, but back when I dropped it at school (when I chose my O Level subjects) it really wasn't a cool thing to do to learn Welsh unless it was spoken already at home.Gassing Station | The Lounge | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
