Tesco clubcard pricing differential...
Discussion
Backfired a bit at my local Tescos. The clubcard prices are just the same as the normal prices at the Morrisons over the road. In fact, the Morrisons prices can be even cheaper. I don't go to Tescos for anything now, except if Morrisons don't have a Warburtons loaf.
I used to get one of the meal deals for £10, main, side, desert and bottle of wine. Went just after Christmas and the self scan didn't apply the discount, came to £24. They said that they had tied that into the clubcard thing. I said no thanks then and just walked out.
Mrs Cupcake goes to Tescos for the bread that she eats (don't have it at Morrisons) and she has said the place is like a ghost town now. Very few customers compared to before.

I find it bloody annoying as I don't want to give them my data beyond them already linking my electronic payment method details to whatever I purchase.
But they can do what they like in their own shop we have to suck it up or FO presumably.
The Clubcard inspectors will have all my personal information what with me buying the odd £3 meal deal or pipe of pringles. But they can do what they like in their own shop we have to suck it up or FO presumably.
Google is more likely to have more information on you than Tesco ever will no matter how much you use your clubcard.
They definitely targeted their vouchers accordingly because he’d receive money off for products only I would’ve bought.
I doubt Google has more information about me than Tesco. I’ve always been convinced that one day reward cards data will be used against you. Privatise the NHS and your shopping history will show how healthy/unhealthy a lifestyle you've lived so you’ll pay accordingly. Obvs complete conspiracy theory on my part…

Tesco are out performing their competitive set (top 4 Grocers). Clubcard pricing and Aldi price-match are their big levers which seems to be resonating with consumers.I used to get one of the meal deals for £10, main, side, desert and bottle of wine. Morrisons on the other hand are losing market share hand over fist, not winning on value and appear to be losing out on quality..

I've noticed that they've lowered the headline prices on things they used to discount by a large amount, eg coffee.
Aldi and Lidl are fine if you've one nearby, and have the time, or if Asda or Morrison's deliver. Tesco is still noticeably cheaper than Sainsbury's though.
I tried an Aldi once, i felt dirty, it was a horrible shopping experience. Aldi and Lidl are fine if you've one nearby, and have the time, or if Asda or Morrison's deliver. Tesco is still noticeably cheaper than Sainsbury's though.
I suspect it's a great little earner for them. I mean for those people who forget their card, don't have it or it doesn't scan but they're stood at the till with a handful of items, they'll just pay the extra. Some people will of course just turn around and leave but many will just save the hassle and pay the excess amount on items.
Wonder how much they make from tourists as well who wouldn't have a card.

Take this morning, for instance. Sharwoods curry jars at Morrisons, 3 jars for £3 (Normal price £1.25 each). Exactly the same jars at Tescos was £1.85 normally, £1.25 with a clubcard.
I have no loyalty to any one supermarket. I used Tescos for a long time because they did decent offers on stuff that I buy. Now they make the offers dependent on having a clubcard and when I switched to Morrisons, I found that Tescos had simply upped the prices and and made the 'offer' price the same as Morrisons.
Anyway, Mrs Cupcake wheedles out all the bargains at Home Bargains, Aldi, B&M and Farmfoods and Iceland. Big name brands but cheaper than the big four supermarkets.

I dare say 80% of their regular customers don't have a Clubcard... Wonder how much they make from tourists as well who wouldn't have a card.

Imagine the more tinfoil you could buy with the savings though! But they can do what they like in their own shop we have to suck it up or FO presumably.
I have corrected the foolish spelling mistake in your user name for you, but I cannot make much sense of the nonsense that you wrote.

What 'data' would that be then? You prefer semi-skimmed milk to skimmed? Wholemeal to white? But they can do what they like in their own shop we have to suck it up or FO presumably.

As always with these things it all depends. Locally we have a Tesco and a Coop, no contest on prices which is why the Coop is struggling.
It's a longer drive to Lidl, bit further to Aldi, then double that distance to the others, Asda Morrisons etc.
Even so we shop around for stuff we like from wherever, so Clubcard doesn't really affect the spend.
Last week we spent 70 quid roughly on a big shop at Tesco, the club card discount off that was £14. Would Lidl have been cheaper, don't know as they don't sell what we bought, some of their equivalents don't pass muster. The amount saved on those equivalents that are OK and cheaper might pay for the fuel to get there, ignoring the extra time. Clearly there are some things where the Lidl / Aldi product is superior and we will make the effort to go.
Horses courses, there's no blanket right or wrong answer.

Bit stuck where I am. Just a Tesco and an M&S in my high street.
Only go to Marks if you want a treat or see how the other half live.
MrsMDMA shops at M&S. Loads cheaper than Tesco. The offers are better, rewards are better, no messy pricing etc. Personally, I’ve found Tesco to be the dearest of all the supermarkets. I’ve never understood how it’s the biggest. Only go to Marks if you want a treat or see how the other half live.
It's hardly news... Though I tend to prefer morissons for fresh stuff (especially as most things you can buy the quantity you actually want) while our local Tesco closed down its fish deli and meat counters, which quite often was the only reason I was there in the first place rather than the Aldi down the road!

7th may 2019 is when Tesco started doing this.
I've had a clubcard for years, it's saved me a fotune on cinema tickets as the points value is trippled if you use them for partner purchases rather than money off groceries.
If budget is an issue, shop around. I tend to buy things with a long shelf life when they have a big discount on them, even if that means i dont need it for six months. Unless you die you will have to buy it and at a higher price, seems a no brainer.
I use my clubcard points to pay for a couple of crossings to france each year. So I get a great deal out of it and am happy to have a Tesco clubcard credit card.I've had a clubcard for years, it's saved me a fotune on cinema tickets as the points value is trippled if you use them for partner purchases rather than money off groceries.

Or they'll just ask the person behind them if they want to scan their clubcard. Happened to me the other day, lady in front got her discounts and I got some more points towards my Eurotunnel vouchers, win win. Gassing Station | The Lounge | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
