This is a first for me in 20 years using the platform ...

I sold an item for £240 in early June and paid extra for it to go Special Delivery 24hrs.

I have messages from the buyer both before and after I sent the item.

He then left me really great feedback saying great communication and I sent it next day etc etc...

I have the tracking from RM that says it was collected from XXXXXXXX DO whatever that means but the signature doesnt mean anything and the signed for name is not the same name as the person who bought the item ?

I assume if it was collected from the post office if thats what DO means whoever collected would have to prove they had the authority to collect ?

This is what the message from eBay says :

Your buyer filed a payment dispute for an order placed on xx Jun, 2022. This means that they disputed a charge directly with their payment institution. They're requesting £240 back, and the reason for this dispute is that the buyer didn't recognise the transaction.

Anyone have any idea how this will pan out ?

Have you contacted the buyer to ask what's going on?

I fell foul of this, along with a few other people at the same time

Basically, they bought, waited for it to be delivered and then did a chargeback via their CC company.

I ended up with no item and no money...Police less than interested, despite having an address etc

Not quite sure what more can be done. As you say, wait & see.

Have you checked eBay's T & C to see if the proof of delivery should be sufficient?

Ouch that doesn't sound promising then frown

Did you have tracking etc ? How did eBay get out of the seller protection mentioned in above post ?

Personally, any high value stuff is cash on collection.

ebay are absolute toe-rags with this whole proof of delivery, signed for nonsense.

They don't really want private sellers on their platform anymore and will 9/10 side with the buyer.

Does that not mean your money is safe whatever the outcome?

Doesnt look like it ....

A payment dispute is when a buyer initiates a chargeback or other type of dispute with their payment institution (for example, their credit card provider or PayPal). The final decision for refunding the buyer is made by the payment institution.

This is different to the eBay Money Back Guarantee, which is when the buyer works directly with you on eBay to get a refund on a transaction, for example, when the buyer opens a return request or reports that the item wasn't received. In these cases, the final decision for refunding the buyer is made by eBay.

OK apparently all his accounts were hacked... He may have opened the dispute by mistake.

I guess it's not beyond the realms of possibility that it is a genuine mistake.

OMG Rod Serling is at the front door !

I'll keep you posted
