Just heard about Paul, very sad, seemed like a really nice chap.
67 not old these days, retirement age
To put a PH slant on this:
I've been procrastinating about blowing a lot of my savings on a Ducati that I test rode at the weekend.
Kept meaning to call the dealer with my deposit money then getting all 'sensible' and saying to myself that I'm being irresponsible.
I'm 60, had a heart attack at 46, so I'm going to go for it. After all, you can't take it with you.
Thanks Paul RIP
Re the Ducati, you will not be blowing your savings - you'll just be investing them in something 'different'. It will still be worth a 'few bob' even if you decided to sell it. Go for it! Life is for living as I keep saying.67 not old these days, retirement age

As for the shock of Paul going, I think it was his manager or someone who said this:
"A man with glitter and grit coursing through his veins."
RIP
It’s very rare that you come across someone that nobody has a bad word to say about, especially in the age of social media. I suspect Paul O’Grady is one though. Always came across as a really nice, caring, funny person. I wasn’t into his radio show (too old for me), but “…love of dogs” was a bit of guilty pleasure viewing for many years.
I know he had existing heart problems but still, 67 isn’t exactly old these days, a bit younger than both my parents.

Something doesn’t add up if you’ve just put a deposit on a Ducati.Guess I have Paul to thank
Thursday 2 February you were at the end of your tether.

BG have suddenly raised the monthly DD from £125 to £570.
With today's interest hike the IO tracker has gone from £200 a month to £1000 in a year.
So not including all the other rises, food, car maintenance, public transport etc, that's another £1200 odd a month to find. That's just not doable. It's another salary.
End of tether now, just no idea what to do.
Nice turn around in fortune in 2 months or one is a lie. With today's interest hike the IO tracker has gone from £200 a month to £1000 in a year.

Being budget conscious I have an old ISA that hasn't performed, from years ago. Was for retirement but it'll probably get me a years rent at the most.
Have decided to take my loses and use it for boring sensible stuff and some fun, as we can see on this thread, you only live once and I'm getting old, and bored of handing money out to everyone apart from me
Nice to know that people actually read the shoite I post on here
Neither are a lie, I'm just not playing the game anymore.

Monster 937, been looking at BMW R1200GS and Triumph Explorer 1200 for the comfort and luggage options but got a test ride on the Ducati and had an absolute blast, put a smile on my face, despite the wind blast
Back on topic, but not celeb, in work today and 2 co workers lost their dads this week and another, their brother in law. All heart attacks, all around my age
I had one in 2009, had a bad bike crash in 2003 and had given up biking after doing 26 years.
3 months after leaving hospital in 2009 I walked into a dealers and got back on a motorcycle.
Very sad to hear about Paul O'Grady. I suppose i discovered him later on as I couldn't abide the Lily Savage character, but I thoroughly enjoyed his Sunday radio show and he came across as a very genuine, warm and witty person.
It's also thanks to him and his show that I discovered the music of the wonderful Harriet, so RIP Paul.

I’d have the Ducati over the triumph & BMW all day personally . Monster 937, been looking at BMW R1200GS and Triumph Explorer 1200 for the comfort and luggage options but got a test ride on the Ducati and had an absolute blast, put a smile on my face, despite the wind blast

Sorry to hear about your co workers deaths.
I’m a regular poster on the retirement thread and being mid 50’s I’m mindful of this.
May I ask their ages ? It might well prompt me to call work a day .
I also thought Paul O’grady was older so 67 no real age.

A few acquaintances of mine have died in their 60s and some of my pals have terminal illnesses.
I know at 60, one could easily have another 20 to 30 years left but it's getting a little concerning and I'm trying to think in the now instead of planning for the future and having a boring time getting there.
I'm taking this thread off topic, where's this retirement thread
