Fly tipping on the increase, doesn’t take much imagination to understand why.

It really isn't.

Of your council tax, around £60 - £80 goes towards waste services each year. This includes household collection, litter picking, parks, crematoria and recycling centres.

A tonne of waste can cost a local authority up to £200 to dispose of. Each home generates around a tonne of waste each year. Recycling avoids disposal and also generates a revenue which means you pay less for the service than it technically costs.

If you rip out a bathroom and take the old bath, sink and bog to the tip, this creates additional waste and thus cost to the local authority and/or their contractor who runs the site. Either council tax can be increased to accommodate these sorts of cases (so others who aren't replacing their bathroom are contributing to yours), or you pay as you need it.

The one in Reading is very good, massive place. Only available to Reading, Bracknell and Wokingham residents. Book a time slot online, take proof of address. Wave it all to the bloke at the barrier and in you go. No big queue, guys wonder around and help you with heavy stuff, in and out in no time.
I’m just up the road and use the West Berks site at Padworth. Similar experience, the booking system is so easy to use and there is never a queue.
Much better than pre-covid when you could easily sit in a queue for 30 mins or more at peak times, one of the few positives to come out of COVID (along with WFH).

And expect every scumbag to use it before you have even half filled it smile. Why does someone always have a sofa they want to get rid of?

I helped my parents move house recently and they went through two skip loads emptying out the house they were moving into. A lifetime of someone's accumulated junk.

The best bit was they tried to give away much of the stuff and nobody wanted it. But throw it in the skip and watch how fast some scrote will nick it.

Out of interest, what are your thoughts on tradesmen who leave the rubbish for you to take to the tip so they don't have to pay the council fees? Most recent experience is a tiler. The leftovers filled the car and I got some strange looks from the tip workers but one of them's from my wife's village and looked the other way as I spent 15 mins emptying the car.

I thought 'dump cam' might be some sort of slightly niche OnlyFans content! biglaugh
Ha ha yes. Perhaps the council could supplement their income with sponsored banners promoting the different dump cams!?

Jesus, that's obscene

I know Hampshire dump sites change for rubble, they wanted £3 for two broken tiles that I had foolishly not hidden in a bin bag.

I think it’s a bloody brilliant idea since ours started using a booking system.

As said, if you really have that much rubbish, hire a skip.

Not difficult really.
Agree, no problem booked a tip visit last night for this Friday.

Oh dear i suggest you all move to the small market town of Oswestry.

Never any queues, no charges for rubble or anything, no booking and most of all helpful staff.

And on the way home you can take a 50 mile detour across some of North Wales's finest driving roads. smile

I live in a council tip -North Hertfordshire - and if i want to go to the recycling centre, just turn up.
Again, cameras in use to see the queues
They've even routed the traffic specifically but otherwise as far as i know it's fine. granted i haven't been for a while

Geographically Swindon is located within Wiltshire but it has been a Unitary Authority since 1997 which means it is no longer under the auspices of Wiltshire Council.

The ceremonial county of Wiltshire consists of two unitary authority areas, Wiltshire and Swindon, governed respectively by Wiltshire Council and Swindon Borough Council.

Swindon Borough contains two towns: Swindon and Highworth, and several villages.
