Guttering rectification... pricing?

We have 3 gutters in our new place, front and rear roof, and front extension roof.

They ALL have a leak at the connector piece mid length.

The birds use the rear one for bathing, so thats obvs not running right.

The front roof to lower extension flows ontot he roof, then falls of the edge, as the lower gutter isnt long enough.

I really want to sort all the gutters out as its pissing me off when it rains. Which is happening a LOT of late.

Im being told its £600 plus vat to rectify by "tradesmen".....

Is this really the ballpark for this park ?

A: In no way am I doing it, cannot do heights work and not taking the risk
B: Ideas to help mitigate this cost ?

Having paid for something similar, twice, £400-£500. But everyone will tell you otherwise.

If you can't DIY it, or find some dodgy handyman to do for £50 to spend at the pub, you'll be calling round roofers - and not a single one will ever turn up (more than once).

Exactly - to replace guttering properly (and safely), they probably need a scaffold tower or a couple blokes on ladders.

Depending on what is wrong (e.g. missing rubber seal at the join.....) I had someone round to quote for cleaning my gutters and there were a couple of leaks at the connections. He did those on top for about £25 each.

Yes, and I can’t think anything without seeing it. But you have 2 fellas for a day plus access and materials at that price. And they won’t be retiring on the profit.

Purely repair, anyone thats want to replace wants to do soffits etc and I have no need for that as already PVC.

The joints are all leaking, this guy says the rear gutter is bowing and he could solve that......

You need 3 gutter unions which costs less than a tenner. But then you also need the existing guttering removing and the brackets moved up or down to fix the fall then the guttering clipping back in. One bloke could probably do it off a ladder in a day but it’s dirty and awkward work. Not tough on a bungalow but not nice the higher you go. If you don’t want to do it then pay the money.

Quite happy to pay a professional to do the job, buts as I have never had to have this done before, I was taken aback at the initial quote.

The guy that was suppposed to come yesterday blew out

Not hard too sort yourself (you being uncomfortable at height set aside).

IME the gutters expand and contract and grit gets into the joints and displaces the gasket - splitting and cleaning them usually is sufficient, if not the gaskets are obtainable (and silicone goo to make them easy to re join).

If you can hire an electric cherry picker then it might be quite straightforward, note that a lot of guttering looks a similar profile but you must get the exact same brand / profile to be fully watertight.
