By Oliver Postgate and Peter Firmin. Emily, who featured in the opening sequence, was Oliver Postgate's daughter, Emily. He was a Quaker, possibly contributing to the gentle nature of all their films. All made in their shed nr Canterbury. You can see the real ones in a Canterbury museum.

Best episode imho, though dated, The Ballet Shoe https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q6l-guXa8lE
Might be mistaken but I think Emily had a shop in Canterbury until fairly recently too. Still sells her artwork around these parts.

Oh, and I only found out a few years ago that Bagpuss was pink and white. We had a black and white TV in them days!
Almost right. Emily was the daughter of Peter Firmin, co-creator of Small Films who produced Bagpuss, Clangers, Pogles Wood etc.

Sadly, Oliver's son Daniel, who took on Small Films after his father's death, took his own life six months ago after receiving a cancer diagnosis.

My favourite episode was the chocolate biscuit one, I think.
"Breadcrumbs and butter beans??? You can't make chocolate biscuits from breadcrumbs and butter beans. Nyerr nyerrr nyerrrr...."

Definitely the best episode!

I very nearly corrected you on that one, but checked first. For years I've thought it was 'Zoltan' in BOTP!

I used to love that series. I must get round to watching some - see how it's stood the test of time. Assume there'll be some on Youtube?

For some reason or other, this popped into my head today:

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0107143/

'Money for Nothing', a Screen One TV movie from 1993. I absolutely loved it at the time - it was set in my home town of Chester, with loads of great location shots, and it was quite a cool story. I was about the same age as the main protagonists as well, which probably helped draw me in.

I watched it again on the 'tube a couple of years back, and I think it's aged quite well on the whole. Enjoyed it again, though some of that would of course have been due to a hit of pure nostalgia!!

I tried one once. I instantly forgot the prediction so I've no idea whether it came true or not.

It may have predicted you’d forget the prediction.

I am a child of the 50s from West London. RAF Northolt is in West London of course. It was used by the Free Polish Air Force during WW2.
This led to there being a large number of Poles in the area, I went to school with kids called Nagalewski, Gorjynski, Polenczek etc. A fair number of Polish delis opened in Acton, they seem to have gone the way of most shops of that type though I think some are opening in the more trendy areas.
Anyway, the point is I can remember going into those shops and being spoken to in Polish by old ladies who I imagine had very little English or assumed everyone going was Polish too.

Dogs being let out in the morning to roam the streets and then coming home in time for their dinner. Said dogs walking with a slightly oblique, crab like, attitude and never missing the opportunity to turn a corner.

Consequentially, lots of dog st on the pavements, much of it white
In the late 80s early 90s in the school holidays I would go to a friend of my mums house to be looked after whilst folks were at work

We would go out to play with the other kids, basically just roaming around on bikes, this was lordshill Southampton

There would be packs of dogs running about having the time of their lives

I remember one pack started to get bigger and bigger over the weeks, perhaps 30 - 50 ( I was only very little so might have been less)

This pack started getting a bit silly and all that

We were on the bmx track on “five acres” and the pack went past in the distance

An hour or so later we were on the other side of five acres at the “banana dump” / “Horse radish hill”, the dogs were nearby you could hear them. This police van came whizzing across the field with the side door open, some copper shouting “lads get in quick, the dogs are attacking people”

We got driven back across the field and essentially chucked into a special needs school that was open and told to stay there

We did for an hour or so and were then allowed to leave

Rumours are the dogs were either shot or run over

That was my final memory of 80s /90s dog packs - not seen them since

Yes there's loads. You can once again be a kid on a Saturday morning getting all excited about catching a glimpse of Princess' knickers in the opening titles.

The only trouble with binge watching the episodes is that you realise how much content in each episode is the same, which is not something you notice when you only watch one per week.

Someone mentioned Fondue on another thread, and it took me back to when my parents bought a fondue set and invited friends round for a dinner party. I don’t remember it ever being used again once the excitement died down…

Key-Op?

I loved BOTP back then, the theme tune was a bombastic fanfare which I still like today. It was only in more recent years that I found out 'us kids' were being shown a heavily edited and retitled version of the original early 70s show Science Ninja Team Gatchaman. Being Japanese anime, the original was lot more risque and violent.

The perfect after school BBC TV line up would be this, anything with Johnny Ball, Tom Baker or Rick Mayall in Jackanory and Beat The Teacher. I think some shows had ended when others were current (Beat The Teacher and Rik Mayall's Jackanory were certainly shown later in the 80s than BOTP).
