One of my customers is a headteacher at a primary school in a roughish area

Some of the tales about the kids and parents are genuinely shocking - parents fighting on the school playground at collection time (drugs realted)

Parents being aggressive and threatening if a child is repramanded

One woman even made up some story about the head molesting kids and put it all over SM (becasue the kid was suspended for fighting)

She's very very good at her job and the school has just had a glowing ofsted report - but she's at breaking point from the stress from the parents and the distress she feels when some kids are neglected.

Its a different world. Awful

Some parents actually seem to see being in and out of prison as a career choice for their offspring. It is very sad and the exact opposite of what I saw around me as a kid- parents with nothing struggling to give their children the chances they hadn't had.

I know it's been discussed in here before, but I went in today.

MIL bought me a t-shirt from there (very kindly) but it was awful so I went in to exchange it.
I don't like wearing things with a huge motif or label emblazoned on the front, so it was difficult to find a replacement.
Plus the clientele were definitely council.

North Face jackets in this heat. Yep, they were people wearing them.
Lots of socks with sliders.

When I was young--a long time ago--i never knew of anyone in the locality or any of their family going to prison or even going to court.

The new owner (the last chap had been there for over 30 years) is trying to make it a thriving business and wants it to stand out so it is noticed. New signage out the back too where there is a small car park. He’s opening 7 days a week and up to 10pm at night to get the place going. Great bloke Manny.

I wish everyone worked as hard as he does.

My wife is head of year at a high school in a less than classy area.
Everything you say rings true to me.
The things that parents say to her when she reprimands children is ridiculous.
Some of them have absolutely no hope in life.

I wish I knew, probably could make a fortune.

For instance, kids not coming into school. Parent calls in, reason is "I can't get him out of bed"
For me, that would never be an option. I got up and I went to school. Same now for work.

Successive generations of fewer and fewer boundaries and consequences. We now live in a "convenient for me" world where too many people have too high an opinion of their own importance, because they were brought up to believe that the world revolves around them. Once it starts then each generation passes it on to the next where it is amplified and so the cycle continues.

I do not know the answer, or even if there is one.

Appreciate someone trying to drum up business and being hardworking however it looks absolutely ste and should be illegal on a British street. It looks like like a Turkish holiday resort. There are homeowners nearby whose homes are now worth less than they were so this person can sell more vapes , cheap booze and fags. It’s worse than council.

A close family member is head of a primary school in a deprived area of SW England.

The things she has to go through, the stress she deals with… I couldn’t do it.

A huge part of her job is safeguarding, so liason with social services and ultimately the police. Her administrative staff has been cut (budget shortfalls) so she’s her own school secretary one day a week. Oh, and her teaching staff has also been cut so she’s back in the classroom, there’s literally no one else to teach them.

The cuts that successive governments have made to our schools system are an ongoing national scandal.
