I know (barely a nodding acquaintance) a chap who has a Porsche and lives in a caaahncil area. This is simply because his budget is skewed heavily towards cars rather than him being a purveyor of psychoactive substances.

As a fellow petrolhead it's admirable. But then I remember he has a BO55 plate and all respect is lost.

Yes. The plate is 3D, obviously, but it is the lettering that is referred to as 3D (raised, fridge magnets etc), as opposed to 2D (flat, printed).

There is no such thing as a 4D plate in the way that people think it is one more than 3D for the lettering. That's stupid and it helps to identify people that it is better to keep away from.

I remember them (3D effect letters) being all the rage.

Now that we have raised lettering it's just so much easier to call them "fridge magnets". Everyone will know instantly what you mean.

Full disclosure - I'll admit I have some pressed metal plates, so also 3D - or is that 4D?
I like them because they frankly look better and don't get damaged on a bike. They're also postcoded and BS AU 145e from a proper supplier.

Also one classic has pressed metal B&W plates, and the other has the original "fridge magnet" types - a metal plate with raised plastic letters.
Funny how things go round in circles!

No. Most number plates are flat. And covered with a thin sheet of clear plastic which is also flat. So what you see is 2 dimensions.

You could argue they have 4 if you treat spacetime as two separate things. Your number plate existed a minute ago and will, most likely, still exist a minute from now.

I am certain that the people buying these plates won't stop at 6D. I believe they have an insatiable taste for the D, and will do anything to get their hands on more Ds.

The entire concept of messing about with numberplates is just council, I'm fortunate enough to walk past a bog standard Fiesta on a regular basis with plates in this style, except the 'drips' are at least as big as the proper bit of plate, ironicly it is parked on a council estate.

A chap local to here has a rather nice 90's Porsche 911 convertible and likes to give it the big one driving around town.....lives in a grotty 1960s flat behind a Lidl supermarket.
I can't work out if it's Council or admirable; but it certainly looks like a post divorce decision

Talking of plates.....I remember seeing this one on a Bentley about 25 years ago on a TV show. Came across as a lovely bloke, but way to ruin a Bentley....
He's probably on PH now and will arrive to give me grief!

I had to use it for a few years for the Porsche garage to MOT my 928 - the real reg is a vinyl sticker and they were convinced it wasn't allowed....

As you can see, it screws into the towing ring socket.

I'm aware that 'Home Bargain' kind of qualifies anyway, but:

We went to one yesterday and some bloke - later teens / early 20s - was wheeling his illegal electric bike around while shopping.
Seemed about as council as it's possible to get.

I'm amazed the staff allowed it.

To be fair, by taking it inside he probably saved us all from hearing whingeing and whining from the family of a squashed e-bike thief...
