I’ve got a couple here just north of Winchester, but they’re quite early varieties. The common ones won’t be out for maybe a week I think.

Hold up, you’re starting to make me think I can allow myself to think winter is coming to an end?! But February is often the coldest most miserable month of them all?

Wow, just goes to show the differences across our relatively small island - I was looking for any sign of bulbs poking through the ground today and couldn't see any trace at all of anything here in Aberdeenshire.
We’ve got the first snowdrops now, more so in sheltered areas under bushes etc. Differences just in Aberdeenshire!

Yeah, I think we are always a bit slow, lower slopes on the North side of Bennachie!

Here comes the change... First storm in what is likely to be a succession is forecast Thurs night in to Friday... Personally I welcome the change from the dirge. The Jetstream is due to really ramp up towards it's maximum.

Yes, need some winds to get the old Agile electricity price back down. Good.

Yes, we really needs lots of high winds to bring down our power cables, cause extensive power cuts and damage. Bad.

Presumably caused by that US extreme cold spell.

Yes-ish.

It's a temperataure contrast which drives the jet stream. It's -30 in parts of the north, it's +20 down in Florida. That's a marked contrast.

When can you start telling us we're in for a baking hot summer laugh

Seriously though, surely it's going to be better than last year, it was still freezing in June!

-50° with wins chill is truly incredible. I’d like to step outside for 20 seconds to experience that, and then go back inside to thaw out. It reminds me of working in cold chain storage when the women we worked with had to have ovary protectors (at least that’s what I was told) for long times in the freezers.

Small world indeed - but not guilty. Havn’t seen those vehicles around, but i don’t venture into the village very often.

Met Office wind warnings from midnight on Friday. The impact is rated as the highest level for West/North Wales and from M62 to M8 - ie if the storm occurs as currently modelled it will go red for a large area.

For rest of Scotland and much of England it's rated at the 2nd highest level - so could go amber for large parts.

I’d take “dirge” over this any day - no idea why anyone likes winter storms, they’re miserable and potentially harmful. I hate them.
