Apparently Araf is pronounced Avva.

There's a bit of useless information for you, and possibly wrong.
"f"s are pronounced as "v"s
What are Rs pronounced as then?

We asked a local while on holiday in Pendine last September and he pronounced it Avva.

You should be proud. You've done more to promote Wales in half a day than the Welsh Tourist Board have been able to achieve in decades.

I suspect many people on here may not ever had heard of Wales until today. wink

Embarrassed more like. But laughing - mostly at myself.

I would, however, like to cite my 4 week lack of sleep due to the new baby as a poor excuse....

Just spoken to my North Walien colleague and he says it's pronounced "ah rav" soft "a" and the v for f, spoken quickly added to a bit of local dialect then a "avva" sound could possibly be heard.

If you go to the new Anglesey track you can pay a visit to the village with the longest name - Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch.
And I can pronounce it too!

When I was commuting along the M4 every day the big digital signs they erected were very useful in telling me that there was congestion ahead and placed just before an alternative route exit - until they decided that the first sign would display Welsh only and the second sign (after my alternative route exit) would display English only. Ok so I learnt what congestion ahead looked like in Welsh but that first time I spent over an hour in a queue I shouldn't have been in.
This is intentional.

Wales and France are two places I will never, ever, under any circumstances, visit again.

In Scun-thorpe - on the M180? On dealer plates.

And I apologise that my linguistic skills don't extend to Welsh.
its probbably no longer an ambulance and has been sold to the trade.
More likely it is being used to transfer a patient from Wales to a Shorpe hospital. Maybe to a specialist unit in Shorpe.

Reminds me of a classic from a friend, "wheres this Hotel Gwesty? seems to be a popular place..."
