Mornin'. The neighbours stores etc arent covered over and even if they were not with boulders THAT big! Surely its blasted rock etc covering something that someone wanted hidden for a while.
I thought exactly the same. I'm also puzzled as to the depth of it compared to the ones nearby. If that concrete hip you can see in one of the last photos is at the apex of the roof, we're going to have to excavate down well below current ground level.

CY88 - If you're in Guernsey then I'd love to come and help. I spent a lot of my early teens illicitly getting into bunkers and tunnels, and have been fascinated by them ever since. It would be great to help out legitimately.
The "other one", unfortunatleywink

I dont think blasted rock is nice and round. I'm wondering if it's just been filled with earth and rock that someone dug out of someplace else and had knowhere to put.... Still I want more pictures over the weekend damn it, or I'll come down their with my beach bucket and spade!...
It was apparently blasted - they collapsed the quarry face over it. Aren't round boulders glacial?

Great thread! Bookmarked!

Dont know if this has been mentioned - is it possible that the 'store' in your neighbours land (or the one down the road) may have a linking tunnel to your one?

Maybe you could get inside using a back door?

I had a chat with the neighbour recently about this. He had some theories too, which I will share in a future update (and which have involved me rummaging round in undergrowth in another part of the garden!) wink

Glacial or the like. Something needs to roll it around and chip little bits off to make it round. Could have been sat at the top of the quarry face and fell down in one piece when they blasted the face I guess.

Didn't they leave the channel islands without much of a fight? I seem to remember there wasn't much in the way of resistance either. I suppose the logistics of getting commandos over to what is virtually France (no offence!) and the risk of reprisals on the islanders meant it wasn't worth doing?

Is this thread going to be like the one where the car was dug up in the states?

All that suspense and something rusty at the end.

And Odyssey, I can't carry on digging until we move / destroy the boulder. They never had to deal with this problem in the Temple of Doom.

The brits did the honourable thing, we decided that there was FA we could do to stop the germans taking the channel islands so we sent them a signal that said "good luck, the germans are coming and we're taking all our people home, get out now if you can but you're on your own" or words to that effect. Hitler then believed that we would do whatever was needed to take them back so made them almost impregnable, so instead we by passed them carried on down through france, and all the way to Berlin. The Channel Islands were almost starved into surrender.

Great thread. So they use a large boulder to block the entrance. High security. Must be somehting special. I bet I know what it is...
