So You don’t like Steve Coogan, what about Alan Partridge or his other creations? Have you watched “The Trip?”

I saw him in stand up a few years ago, before he was well known. His campness, funny faces, and so on were funny initially, for the 10 minute or so slot that he did..
He doesn't seem to have moved on though and is clearly out of his depth a lot of the time.
Appalling on You’re Fired.

Had the misfortune of him being the ‘act’ at a recent awards dinner in London. Any comedian that has to revert to gags about their sexuality can do one. It’s 2019 ffs, no one gives a toss!

Even with our love for hyperbole, that's a bit of an over-reaction, isn't it?

Yes, it's a good thread to remind you of great comedians who you've forgotten about. biggrin

For a supposedly creative group of people they aren't half a homogenous bunch.

After Nish Kumar and one or two others got a little overexcited during the election I had a quick scan through the Twitter accounts of the usual Mock the Week type suspects. The vast majority were spouting the same crap.

Francesca Martinez

Comedy requires fast talking and brilliant timing.

Her disability means this isn’t possible and, as a result, she is simply not funny.
I think that is incredibly harsh.

You have to make allowances for disabilities and anyone going to see her is aware she has CP.

I don't agree with most of her political views, but a 25 year career as an actress, comedian and author is pretty good going for anyone without a disability.
I really tried when she was on HIGNFY but couldn't do it. Maybe it's because that format is supposed to be easily digestible and I just couldn't work out what she was saying.

It's going to be interesting to see how many of them cope with having to work a bit harder. For too many years the usual suspects have been doing the rounds playing to studio bubble audiences where they can lazily just spout "Blablablablabla punchline Brexit alt Trump" and get a laugh.

It’s basically just a list of people that they don’t like, if there was some criticism of the comedy I’d get it but it’s not even that. I can understand The comments about Francesca Martinez but rather than trying to be a comedian, I think she is just giving an idea of what life is like for a young outgoing woman with cerebral palsy and it’s a story worth telling.

i suspect ultimately because most comedians are left leaning, successful and appear to have it easy, and most people are here none of the above, comedians are fair game on PistonHeads for slating as unfunny.
