Interesting thread! Presumably everyone knows about this site? http://www.28dayslater.co.uk/forums/
No never heard of that site but boy is my boss not going to be happy about me trawling that one at work! Picturetastic! Interesting thread! Presumably everyone knows about this site? http://www.28dayslater.co.uk/forums/
Bobsleigh and Luge tracks from the 1984 Winter Olympics, now derelict and eerie in the woods outside Sarajevo. There's plenty of the Olympic buildings still around and derelict, hotels, coffee shops and all sorts, but one doesn't like to stray too far from the paths for obvious reasons......
It's weird thinking about how it all would have been in '84, with thousands of people spectating and enjoying the Olympics.

Pyestock, end of discussion!
"Soon there will be very little physical evidence of the existance of one of the most significant research capabilities of its type in the world" - Ian Mckenzie
I used to work with Ian, I take it from the quote that he wrote the boook in it's history that was talking about years ago?"Soon there will be very little physical evidence of the existance of one of the most significant research capabilities of its type in the world" - Ian Mckenzie
I set up some of the gas analysis kit on the SCR which seems to have been left behind
and spent a lot of time in C4
Spent a fair bit of time in A3 too, looks like a fair bit of the pipework for the combustion rig is still there but the ILPF rig the other side has been taken out completely

What a terrible waste, I was there the year after the olympics in winter 1985 and saw things in their glory days. Fantastic new hotels and cafes etc. I can remember going to the ski hire shop and all the equipment was brand new,a lot still in shrink wrap being opened for us to try on. Definate air of discontent in the locals tho... It's weird thinking about how it all would have been in '84, with thousands of people spectating and enjoying the Olympics.

Imagine going into a padded cell in an old abandoned lunatic asylum, taking your pictures and stuff and then hearing a 'click' behind you. You look around and the door is closed. You try to open it but you cannot. You bang on the walls, but nobody can hear you...
Going into the padded cell, and yes, we did close the door, was really strange. It really brought home how we treat people and how these people lived their lives. Of course some people are best locked up if they are a danger to themselves and the general public, but not too long ago people were in asylums for being deaf or epileptic.I don't know how it has happened but there was lots of case files still knocking around, especially at Cane Hill; it was amazing reading some of them. These asyslums are really little communities in themselves, with shops/post office, dentist, church (the church at Cane Hill is/was fantasitc).

I think this thread would be more 'cool' if the pics were actually taken by the person posting them, on the basis of them having actually explored the 'stuff'.

These sea forts fascinate me!
I read a story recently that the US bombers used to lob empty oil barrels at them when they returned from raids. Cheeky Buggers.

When England tried to retake the fort by increasingly it's territorial waters, Roy did the same and won the European Courts vote!
