Gosh that was a tame lodge. They missed out a lot. No goat stilts, pork scratching parties or even a mention of goose kicking.

Maybe next week.

I take it they didn't have the buxom ladies performing the "ritual" then?

The production company bottled it after a threat from PETA. Which is a load of rot, the goat always enjoys that sort of thing.

It came across as a blend of the WI & the Boy Scouts. Harmless enough. Seemed to appeal to those who like the mystery and some sort of hierarchical structure in their life.

That's who it is! We were googling to find out who it was as wifey and I both recognised him from somewhere.

A late arrival at the party.

I am in two lodges, Berkshire and Surrey, been through the chair three times, now looking for a slightly quieter life!

Welcome to the thread. smile

It was the AGM for the Province of Durham on Saturday. I'm now a Steward. First meeting for me at the Stewards lodge coming up on the 6th July, but I've already been told what teams I'm on, DC (which I really wanted) and Training and Education. Should be a busy 5 or 6 years!

I've not read the whole thread so apologies if this has been mentioned elsewhere. I briefly considered looking at application to my local lodge about a year ago but was put off by the condition of - if I correctly recall the terminology - "belief in a higher power".

I'm not sure how much you're allowed to share on that front but I'd be interested if it is a complete deal breaker.

I like to try and play a positive role in my community and have looked at various organisations e.g. Rotary Club, Round Table, Lions etc. but they all seem to be Jesus Geezers of one degree or another so I've never taken things any further.

The question you'll be asked is just that. Whether its Jesus, Vishnu, Allah or that Barry Chuckle is the creator hehe

You don't have to go any further.

It could simply be an opinion that this all didn't appear by chance.

Lodges will use a volume of the sacred law - usually a bible here, but other texts in other countries (for obvious reasons).

I dont think anyone in my lodge is a church-goer, for example.

Bloody heathen... Paul Chuckle is the only true god.

I suppose in its broadest terms, science could be a "higher power" than anything man-made.

Is the Masonic similar to the Orange Order? Tons of Masonic members in NI are also members of the OO.
No, absolutely not. While the satsumas might base elements of their lodge structure on Freemasonry, I would argue that their principles are in direct conflict with those of Freemasonry. All men are equal, and we do not discriminate based on a person's religious beliefs, as these are never discussed. I'd struggle to see how any true FM could be a member of the OO.
I know there's a link in N Ireland and in N Scotland between freemasonry and protestant loyalism.

I remember my grandad being big in the lodge and it was certainly linked to Protestantism, rangers football club and a general right wing anti catholicism. His fellow members were much the same.

Put me off joining completely. Perhaps it's changed but I can't help but notice some of the more vocal right wing posters seem to be in senior positions.

Is it a right wing organisation still or is it non political?
