Well in a little over 24 hours I become ME!

Looking at that BBC article I will fall as I don't have that sixth finger.

Have any of you read the SIRC report 'The Future of Freemasonry' which has been distributed recently?

If you haven't had it via your Sec, drop me a line and i'll mail it over.

how long did that take?

sounds like it's a bit of a production line to get people initiated, passed and raised

I've seen a double second being done, apparently it's quite common in University Scheme lodges.

I've only got one more meeting until I go into the chair, but I'm going to miss it because I'm having a major op at the end of this month and will then be in plaster for months. So, next time I set foot in a lodge will be for my installation. Which is faintly...terrifying!

3 hours! Plus our WM had to bail at last minute as he is Army and was needed for something and our SD was ill! Pleasingly, our PIGs helped out and one two of our brothers are masters in other lodges and have done the ceremonies within the last month!

Brilliant night, truly a great example of Masonary and fun... and a little too much to drink, for our two new initiates.

yikes We've done a double 1st before, but I think 2 ceremonies is more than enough for 1 meeting. Second degrees are fairly short, so I can understand a double 2nd. I think it takes a little away from the night if you have to share the limelight. Good work though all the same, that's a helluva lot to learn...

To be fair, we had two PM's take the chair which helped. It was a double first and a single second! Double firsts are actually rather fun but it was a lot of work for one night. I did feel a little for the bro who was passed though as you are right that it takes away from him as the focus really was on our two new initiates. Problem we have is that we have two more initiates to come, so we presently have 2 EA, and either 2 or 3 FC (can't recall!) and this in a Lodge that was on the verge of handing its warrant in the year before I was initiated 7 years ago. We have lost a few members, people who have moved away or decided Masonary is not for them but generally we are in a good place and the regular brethren who attend most meetings and most LOIs all really value both Masonary and our Lodge.

Thinking of which, we meet in Clerkenwell and guests are always extremely welcome :-) I may be a little biased but my Lodge (Manchester 179) is extremely warm, friendly and really fun. We always have at least 5 guest and last night, I think it was around 20!

Great news about your lodge. Our lodge has been very close to going under too. We're back up to about 22 members I think at the moment, with 2 more initiates ready to come in this year, 18 months ago we were down to about 16 regular members. The problem we have, is that our more senior members tend to be a little too pushy to get new members on the floor and rushing them through the offices. We have a couple of members who've been through the chair 4 times because people just drop out when they get to JD/SD. Whilst I respect traditions and accept there are ways to do things, sometimes I feel that a few of the more senior members need to move with the times a little. It can be all too easy to criticise new and younger members who are not always completely confident in the work they do...

We used to meet in Clerkenwell until October when we got into GT Queen st. So much better, no ripped carpets, no holes in the curtains and we dine at the Prince of Wales where the food is a million times better. Do you know what your lodge is planning for the future? We moved as I think they'd sold Clerkenwell and were planning a new building or somoething? It all sounded a little sus from what I could make of it...
