Would now be a good time to post that the magpie isn't native to this country and was (I believe) introduced from holland in order to limit the number of fieldfares?
I have to ask where the bloomin heck did you get that "fact" from as it's something I'ev never heard any reference to before and I can't find any evidence of any kind to support it?

Until 5am this morning I held no strong opinions on magpies.

By around 6am I wanted them all dead.

Our cat had caught one and was merrily chewing it's head off in the front garden. This caused a lot of stress for two other magpies that were making an almighty racket and tried to get fatmanchow (the cat) off their now dead friend.

They spent an hour diving at him. I managed to get the cat inside which quietened the magpies. Back out this morning at 9am and the magpies were back again, screeching away and diving at him.

Unfortunately, they appear not to be the quickest of learners and my cat now has a second helping.

The third magpie is still going for him right now.

I haven't bothered to fill up the cat's food bowl.

I used to be one in a former life, and though my recollections are somewhat hazy, I distinctly remember wearing clogs.
