Agreed, Personna Platinum are very good - consistent too.
IIRC I sold you my stockpile when I decided that Feathers was my blade of choice, didn't I? nerd

Heads up for anyone who wants a decent DE razor at a cheap price.
Search for Baili BR171 razor on ebay & you can pick up a really decent Gillette Tech clone for £7.99 delivered.
I tried it this morning & it gives a very pleasant, close shave. thumbup

I have a fat handled made in Canada Tech.
Great razor & a bit more aggressive than your normal Tech.
Very nice - is this pre-war? What box did it come in?

Sorry for old bump, I didn't spot your post previously.... I have many Tech razors and find them my 'go-to' razors.

I got it in a bakelite box - not sure if that's original.

The made in Canada 1932 patent Techs with the triangular slots (like mine) were apparently made from 1939-45.

Very nice - thanks for those pics.

I think I may have one in my collection, I will have a check - I am basing that suspicion on the handle design.

The Tech really was such a great razor (still is), it was not at all expensive to produce and sold in vast numbers. The bakelite box is almost certainly genuine and there were quite a few different box designs. I have a few in white, white and blue, red and black plastic boxes too - almost like travel cases. Very neat.

If I were to pick up one of these:

What should I budget for getting properly sorted and "shave ready"? Assume I'd then need a strop?

If you're looking at a vintage one they can be quite inexpensive £30-50. Lots on eBay and there are forums.

You would need a strop, but you could most likely make do for a while. People use newspaper, for example.

The learning curve is steep, but it's not particularly difficult.

Hi guys

I need some help.

Was burgled earlier today with 2 cars stolen and have some (bad) CCTV. Would any trainer experts be able to help try to ID the trainers they are wearing.

It won't be easy but I suspect some of you guys will know.

It would help as I have a couple of names for suspects

Would need to pm the footage I don't won't to show this in the wider forum yet.

Thanks in advance

I've been using my Merkur Futur daily for 10 years now. The plating is starting to flake off inside the head where the blade sits, but otherwise it's fine.
Just thought I'd update this. Where the plating has worn off, the zinc alloy casting has started to corrode quite rapidly and I don't think there is a lot of life left in it now.

I'm thinking of replacing it with something a bit more durable. Possibly a Feather AS-D2 or something else made out of stainless.

How about a nice Vintage Gillette Slim adjustable?
They last forever & are going for half the price of a Fatboy.

If you like it, just get a Chinese copy for throwaway money?

Im still shocked the difference the water temp and face temp prior can make to a shave, it's night and day.

A bit of effort/prep beforehand is well worth it! smile...should remind myself of that when I'm in a rush and then have a st shave!! biggrin

A 10 minute shower before you shave is the best prep you could have.
Far better than using pre-shave oils & all that other stuff imo.

I ended up getting Muhle R89 head on an Ikon Bulldog stainless handle (package sold by a localish online shop). I used it for the first time today and immediately prefer it to the Futur - it's much more comfortable to use and noticeably less harsh on the neck. Can't believe I've spent the last 10 years using the wrong razor smash

laugh Funnily enough I did exactly the same thing, moving to an ej89. The Futur is a pretty bit of kit, but not the most friendly design.
