I had the snip about 9 years ago.
My advice: get some Speedo's to wear immediately after the op, and for the next couple of days....stops dangling nads which can be very uncomfortable when the tubes have just been severed.

The Dr here placed some ice gel packs on afterwards to avoid having to stitch the scrotum. Worked well. Think about how the scrotum shrinks itself when it's cold! wink

It's easy!

A slightly different angle.....

Make sure your relationship is perfect. Really perfect. I know someone (not me!) who had the snip, only for their relationship to fail later and then for them to met a new perfect woman, who is desperate for kids.....
This won't happen. I'm in a very happy and stable relationship. If it did fail, a woman who is desperate for kids isn't going to be the right one. I've two already, and I'm too old to start all that nonsense again.

As for the procedural advice, I've been told not to shave, and that the single incision will be cauterised - no stitches! I've got the speedos ready, and I'm looking forward to a weekend on the sofa.

I'm going to get done next Friday, and I've just had a 15 minute telephone consultation that appeared to be tailored to scare my balls back up.

I'd appreciate as many reports as possible of trouble free, no hassle during or after procedures as possible. I don't see the need for any pics, thanks.
I don't know if this is true, but there is a small chance (very small) that your kidneys will fail and it's related to getting a vasectomy. If it is true, it explains why one of my uncles is getting a kidney from his brother as soon as he gets to 13% efficiency or something. Dunno if that's true or not.

I had one in January 2011, it was no more painful than a visit to the dentist.

However, 7 months later I was still not considered to be `all clear` from the lab. I gave so many samples I was getting sick of `cracking one off` in the hospital toilets (and that`s something I never thought I`d say.....). Anyway, after 9 months I finally got a letter saying that the possibility of me being fertile was `very low`. So far so good.

Oh, and if you think it`ll be non-stop knobbing when you`ve finally been given the all clear think again!

I'd agree that supportive underwear for at least a week (and probably far more) is pretty much essential - makes a far bigger difference than you think.

I had a bit of a nightmare experience - they forgot anaesthetic on the second side and I jerked hard as the scissors went in which cause them to create an exit wound. That took a while to heal and hurt pretty badly when it happened. It did heal eventually though...

Side effect for me has been a large increase in sex drive though - it was high enough before but since the op healed it has been through the roof.

All done! Procedure took about 10 minutes.

A couple of hours on, I've got a dull ache in my abdomen, which surprises me. During the procedure, there were a couple of toe curling moments, and one when I jumped a fair bit. The incision's surprisingly small, and not where I expected it to be.

^ The pain in the abdomen is normal.

I was amazed the bruises weren`t where I was expecting them either.

Anyway, glad it all went well.

I hardly felt the needle, but when she was pulling the tubes around, it was impressively sore.

PLUS ONE. More than a few days IMHO, I'd give it a week at least (I didn't and regret it)

I think the sex drive is psychological. I'm NOT saying it doesn't exist, just that it is a "software" thing rather than physically caused. After I was circumcised, a similar thing happened to me, and there is clearly no direct link there (other than not being able to use the equipment for more than a fortnight). If after years of putting up with a problem, you remove the problem, your brain will naturally feel more liberated and willing to use the equipment for the job it was designed (ok evolved) for. Like having a new car, you want to go out and drive it.

Instead of speedos, may I suggest a jockstrap? Aside from my recovery, I know chaps who have had injuries etc to the ol' nadgers and they seemed to rate the good old jock. Highly unfashionable now, but designed to do a specific job!

Er, I thought sex drive is unaffected?
I thought so too, but nope. I've turned into a total sex pest since recovering from the op - it genuinely consumes every waking moment of my life now. My poor wife looks haunted tbh. Other's experiences may vary though.

On day two, sex drive is a bit less than usual. No bleeding, only minor swelling and pain.

Marathon session with the youngest on the wii this morning, and I've just gone and bought a jockstrap. What a revelation. Highly recommended.

This is what concerns me, it seems every day I take a hit to the spuds because of my clumsy son (so he is staying at his grans for a few days after my snip)
That was one of my concerns, a backheel from Alfie isn't a pleasant thing on any day of the week, let along a post-op day! Fortunately he and I gave one another a wide berth and all was fine.. Until I forgot and jumped down the stairs in the garden....
