All good so far. Couple of paracetamol and ibuprofen, took the dog and the boy to the park this afternoon and kicked a ball about gently.

Ballbag a bit swollen and tender, but not unbearable. The incision is incredibly small, and right on the pasty stripe. For some reason, I imagined they would go in the side or at the back.

Nothing yet. Swollen, but no colour, unfortunately. I'm looking forward to that.

I'd forgotten about this thread. A month in, everything's fine. It still feels a bit different, but after 40 years of everything being connected, I suppose that's inevitable. Good luck.

A further update: I'm one in 2000 men for whom the procedure fails. What a kick in the balls.

Booked in for a repeat performance on 10th May.

Oooof! So swimmers are still there, then.
You didn't know you were so manly, eh? wink

Well, better to find out now than, like a mate of mine, when his wife was up the duff unexpectedly. Yes, it was his. He had the snip a 2nd time too.

Still, you have the jockstrap already! laugh

Unbelievably, about 4 hours after today's procedure, I was chatting on the phone and noticed a stain spreading on my jeans in the ballbag area. While continuing the phone call, I slipped out of my jeans and had a look. fk me. I'm now in Frenchay hospital. The world and his wife have had a look at my scrotum, and the paramedic that came out estimates there was a pint of blood on the kitchen floor. Great guy, let me put my jeans and several teatowels in the wash before he brought me here.

I wouldn't recommend vasectomy, based on my experiences so far.

Sounds like what I had, surgeon cut the vein that runs alongside the vas. Look forward to a couple of months pain and swelling and don't believe them when they say it'll clear up in a week or so. Based on my experience since I wouldn't recommend it either and you could end up like me with permanent ongoing discomfort.

Sorry to hear you've had so much trouble, that sucks.

I had mine done on Thursday. Still very achey but no dramas. The doc who did it was a good laugh, which really helped me relax.

The biggest surprise for me has been the lack of support post-op from my other half. I was looking forward to a few days on the sofa to finally finish Mass Effect 3 on the Xbox, but I've ended up doing loads of chores and childcare. I wasn't expecting a hero's welcome home but the way it's going unnoticed has left me feeling quite low. Wasn't expecting that!

Did she actually want you to have it done?

It eventually stopped bleeding at about 2 am, and I got a taxi home with a very nervous driver at 3am. My scrotum looks like it's been through a lawnmower. I normally keep things trimmed down there, but I reckon I'm going to let it grow for a while!

Absolutely shattered, but very impressed with the way everybody I dealt with treated me. It probably helped that I was the only sober customer in the A&E department last night.

Sorry to hear of your misfortune and hope it's sorted now.

The above quote did raise a smile though!

Yeah, we both did. I know she's thankful I did it, which is why this was so surprising.

Yesterday I said I could do with a bit more help to save me dashing around, and she understood and agreed, then promptly spent an hour on the phone to her Mum whilst I've got the kids. I don't get it!

injections are the worst - the rest is just 'uncomfortable' nothing more
as long as the doctor checks to ensure that the anesthetic has taken effect before cutting you open and pulling out the tubes to be cut...
Because as i found out, it only takes seconds to cut and remove the first tube and cut it , by which time you might be one the ceiling with the nurse trying to hold you down..... with the doctor saying oh dear i think we need more anesthetic.

the other side was completely painless after that... I had flashbacks for 2 weeks..

I've posted this before but here goes. The anesthetic injection hurt like hell. I had a reaction to the anesthetic which made me quite ill on the table, seems I'm allergic to adrenalin, so he rushed the second part of the job. All was fine until about an hour after and one of my testicles started to swell and the wound that side started bleeding. The surgeon came back and said he'd have to open it up again to see what was wrong but as I'd had a sandwich it would have to be a local again but he'd have preferred to give me a general anesthetic.
Once opened up he started fishing around inside and the pain was like nothing I'd ever endured before or since and he still couldn't find where the bleeding was coming from so he inserted a drain and stitched it up again. As I said earlier he'd accidentally cut the vein that runs alongside the vas tube. I spent the night in hospital unable to move and then spent another six weeks off work with one gonad the size of a small planet. This was caused by fluid build up and although he drained it after about 3 weeks it swelled up again within 24 hours although it did however eventually go down.
I've since had pains in that side and at one point I had a scan which found I have a varicose vein down there, probably caused by the op.
The surgeon said only about 1 in 2000 ops go wrong but that's not much consolation when you're the one.

Having had a couple of days to get over what happened, and talking to several people about it, my experience, while similar to Jagracer's was slightly less serious.

These days, there is only one incision into the scrotum, and they do both sides through that. It's generally pretty small, and isn't closed with a stitch. The current theory as to what happened to me is that there was a bit of a nick to the vein - like Jagracer's. Almost immediately post op, my scrotum began to fill with blood. As the pressure in my scrotum increased, the blood breached the incision, and that's what soaked through my jeans. Once I got naked from the waist down, all the blood in my scrotum, as well as what was still bleeding from the vein, rapidly came out onto the kitchen floor. I hadn't felt any of this because of the local anasthetic. The big concern was that I may have been in bed asleep, and not seen the blood. Had it been allowed to continue unchecked,I could have lost a great deal of blood.

I'm almost as fully recovered as you can expect to be. I still wouldn't do it again.

Unfortunate for the ones that have had bad experiences - maybe it is the 'one incision' method ?
Mine a few years ago was 2 small on either side and no probs at all, apart from general soreness for a few days & few months before all-clear. Healed fine and can hardly see a thing.
I would talk to GP/specialist centre (should have a consultation before to make sure it is what you and partner want and go through risks etc.) and aska bout method there.
