have worn the all the time since I was 14, magically (and due to my quite weak prescription (-1.1) and age) my need to wear them will apparently diminish to nothing, then I will have to move to reading glasses.

I've tried contacts but my eyes get too dry so on day 3 I can only wear them for 2 hours at the outside.

Surprising results, so only 1 in 5 who responded don't!
Surprised me too.. Wonder if this poll had been done say 100 years ago what the percentages would have been. Have TVs/computer screens etc caused poor eye sight..
Maybe people who dont wear glasses arent looking at this section

Could it be that glasses wearers are attracted to this poll?

CC, thanks for your reply. I am astigmatic as well as long sighted. Can contacts cope with astigmatism?
Yes, Toric lenses are for people with astigmatism.
Thanks, I'll speak to my optician.

Maybe.

It was partly the reason it was put in The Lounge rather than Health, but PH have moved it.

And the technology has moved on an awful lot - ten years ago my prescription (long-sighted and astigmatic too) was beyond even hard lenses, but now it's comfortably within the ability of soft lenses which are much more comfortable.

I used ot have to sue them. In school/college I was told I needed them.a few years ago I went to have my eyes tested and I wanted to try it with out my glasses/contacts.

Was tehn told I don't need them any more and have near 20/20 vision! biggrin

Good job really hadn't had time to get new glasses o they were heald together with duct tape and blu-tac!

Are you sure about that, you can't seem to see the keys very well.

Just remembered; my prescription is also for varifocals - can that be managed too?

I've worn glasses for nearly 40 years, and I'm 42 now. I had an accident when I was very young which resulted in a "lazy eye", cue the need to wear a pirate's eye patch for some months, then glasses.

I wore contacts for a year from the age of 21, the old Specsavers offer, but they didn't have a high enough water content and I ended up with loads of thread veins in my eye balls, which wasn't very nice!
I prefer glasses and have 4 pairs, which I switch between, all with Zeiss high index lenses as my scrip is about +7, and I have 2 pairs of prescription sunglasses too. nerd

I do have some disposable contacts which give me about 90% vision, which I used ot wear for diving and skiing, but since I purchased some "OTG" ski goggles, the contacts are rarely worn. smile

No but I need to. I bought a cheap pair of reading glasses the other week and it was clear that my eyesight has been going wrong for some time. Then I noticed that one eye is long sighted and the other short sighted! So I threw away the reading glasses and keep meaning to go and get a pair of proper ones made for my eyes. But I haven't yet. Partly because I'm stingy and don't want to spend money so long as I can still see, and partly because I don't want to wear glasses, completely irrationally.

Mostly contacts, occasionally glasses.
When I first got old, I found myself wearing the specs more often as I could flip them up, out of the way to read.
I've since found some very good multi-focal daily disposable contacts which allow me to read and drive. Bang on!

Worn them constantly since I was about 12 although I switched to contacts about 12 years ago.

I'm not that short sighted (-2.0) but have a bad astigmatism which causes ghosting in my sight. So say I'm looking at the letter 'A' written on something, there will be a shadowy 'A' above and to the left of it, but it's in a different place for each eye, the lenses correct the problem, they don't do a perfect job of doing it so will get them zapped.

Main problem I have which is getting worse as I get older is that my eyes take longer to focus on an object, if it's a moving object often my eyes can't keep up. It makes it difficult to read road signs as they're moving towards me relative to the car, eyes really struggle to focus, if I stopped the car and looked at the same distance it's fine. I've mentioned this to loads of different opticians but they look at me like I'm daft.

Worn them since primary god know when. Pretty blind, useless without them!

Started wearing contacts full time about 5 years ago (the ones you leave in overnight), but lately I've been using glasses more often. Sometimes a couple of weeks in contacts, then a couple of weeks in glasses. Thought it was best to give my eyes a rest from the contacts, and I find glasses better for driving, especially at night.
