Today... my moan is: why can even twangy teenagers deadlift more than me?

Posted by my gym... alright, it's not exactly the smoothest performance, but I can't lift 185kg! And I'm a mountain compared to him!

https://www.facebook.com/AnytimeFitnessChelmsford/...

I hit a deadlift plateau about 18 months ago, and just can't budge it. I've never done 'half' a deadlift; I build up and just suddenly reach a point where the kit is glued to the ground. Won't budge by 1mm.

6'3"; 100kg +/-3kg. And strong legs! I can't see any reason why my 1RM isn't 2x bodyweight.

*sigh*
frown
Ditto! I can get to 1.8x bodyweight. My 1RM comes off the ground and I lift it all the way. Add 2.5kg and the bar has suddenly been glued to the floor! I can squat about the same as I deadlift.

Aint that the truth, Christ on a bike, couldn't hardly park the other day, even in the overspill, got in and it was no better, the running track looked like a Wildebeest stampede, normally you see a couple run past a minute, there were hordes trotting round, total bedlam. Not sure it will quieten down properly either as the one I used to go to closed and loads have migrated from that.

Some poor bloke with an impressive belly was getting utterly beasted by this female PT, she is pure evil, prob early forties with an arse that you could use to break rocks on, the hapless sods t shirt had ridden up and his belly was on display, swear she was resenting the new starters and doing her version of Full Metal Jacket on them, private Pyle taking the worst of it.

Glad it's not 'just me'. It really bugs me, especially when my PT says that I'm not even trying, because I didn't even move the weight a little bit!

A myth that almost all big powerlifters seem to believe! smile Deadlifting is usually seen as very different from squatting when it comes to frequency.

I have deadlifted twice per week, rather than once, and it did nothing for me at all apart from smooth out my form a bit. For my money, once you are deadlifting light, you would be better off doing assistance work instead (as deadlifts are suited more to strength than hypertrophy). Others have different views.
Modern powerlifting programming tends to have more frequency than the older days. As the load gets to higher levels, the frequency reduces- using a 1RM of 180kg, the load is low enough to deadlift multiple times a week. Some elite guys only dead every 2 weeks, but these are elite guys.

You'll get results from any well written program if you put the work in. If you want your deadlift up, pick a program, run it until the end, and you'll have a bigger dead (providing diet etc is on point)

That's a myth- if you watch you're loading then it's not an issue- I've done it 3 times a week no problem, in fact it gave me a PB over 10 weeks (along with squatting and benching 3x per week)

No CNS's were fried biggrin

I must be lucky as my gym was almost deserted this evening.

Save for two young blokes doing boxing training, a young girl doing some cardio with her boyfriend, and the owner who turned up with his adorable new Alsatian puppy, which everyone had a play with. thumbup

Have been following your tribulations on IG. Props for some seriously inventive ways to keep training in spite of your... temporary limitations!

I set a deadlift PR this week 5 reps @ 140kg. I was the annoying guy though, the last rep it came down like an anvil and made a right clatter. I was kinda distracted as I had puked in my gob and was trying to keep it in lol

Deadlifting twice a week probably is not optimal. You’d get more out doing more assistance / hypertrophy training, rather than frying your CNS.

Anyway, off-thread.

Nothing wrong with deadlifting twice a week, but you can't be expecting to be anywhere near maxing each session if you are.

I like once a week with a heavy week and light week.

Teenagers working out like 40 year-old steroid users and wasting their best years. 2 lads in the gym this morning doing 20 rep machine work for an hour. Just do some squats and rows and eat! Idiots.

This + them being January newbies = double annoying. Oh & them leaving their st (bags, coats, etc) under the sign that states personal st left in the gym will be taken to lost property makes for triple annoying.

Doing 531 boring but big at the moment. Last week was the 531 week for each lift so the last set (the "1" set) was heavy. I was doing bench press and was going for 2 reps on 125kg which is pretty heavy for me and would be a PR.

I was doing the lift in the power rack with the safety pins set, and I was feeling strong. I unracked the weight for the 1st rep, took a breath, lowered the weight till it touched my chest and pressed the weight with little drama. So I steadied myself and went for rep 2; half way down a young gentleman decided he needed his phone from the window sill behind the power rack and bodged past the bar I was in the process of pressing. The lateral movement was enough to completely ruin the second rep and I was glad I had the safety pins in.

After I'd limbo'd out from under the weight I did the British thing and muttered under my breath and glared at his retreating back.......

My previous gym shared a car park with a co-op, and due to a handful of aholes using the car park as a park and ride they introduced anpr to the car park with a 60 minute max stay. I still had 2 months to run on my 12 month contract, and when I told them I was cancelling due to the car park, and long queues to get on the equipment I wanted to use at the times I could make it there they tried to charge me the last 2 months. I told them 60 minutes parking was not enough for my workout and the lack of resistance machines due to the broken ones never getting fixed was meaning I wasn't getting the service I was paying for, I cancelled the direct debit and said see you in court. Dozens of letters followed but they never followed through on any action. The building is now split into a hairdresser and flower shop so I'm guessing I wasn't the only one. My garage is now my gym.

Reverse Banded Smith Machine Squats with knee wraps.

Not quite sure how the bands work against the squatter, no point asking them as they just ignore my technical questions;
