Father and sons again last night, this time using belt and knee wraps at 100kg. Oh do fk off - maybe im just a powerhouse but was recommended to start wrapping up the knees at 2x bodyweight
Two lads in the gym earlier this week festooned in knee wraps and belts doing 90kg-100kg squats (mainly singles). They were doing that spotting thing, where they sort of spoon each other on the lift, in spite of being in a power rack with safety pins. YouTube has a lot to answer for.When I first started lifting, I wore gloves and found that they tore at my skin more than the raw bar. They move against the skin, even when you think they're a tight fit.
Now, I just use straps for deadlifts, which are a heavy woven canvas(?), and you can lock them as you tighten them in the opposite direction to your grip unwinding.

Which gloves do you guys recommend ? - asking for a friend
For what reason does your, err, friend, think gloves are needed?ashleyman said:
the question about gloves is a obvious joke. there's no need for anyone to wear them. you look like a tool and it hinders grip strength. getting a callus? so what? that's part of it.ambuletz said:

Chalk > gloves. I’ve never seen anyone other than skinny teenagers wearing a vest two sizes too small or big...or OAPs wear gloves. There’s a reason ‘serious’ lifters use chalk...if the bar is destroying your hands - have a proper look at your grip & how much the bar is moving during your sets. Your form could be off, you could be gripping the weight in the wrong place, or maybe it’s too heavy & you’re cheating by rotating the bar as you push it to get some momentum (depending on exercise) ...
Calluses are normal, removing excessive skin, is not (unless you’re ripping the bar on your shins on DL’s)

The use of bars & dumbbells shouldn't, as a rule, literally lead to your skin peeling off.
So there's few potential factors at play here:
* You have a skin condition
* Your technique is off
* You have calluses but aren't keeping on top of them, and thus, tearing.
(but then you wear gloves, so you probably don't have calluses)
Either way, in isolation, if skin is literally tearing from your hands, there's an issue somewhere.
