I use the treadmill to warm up for weights, always have done it's the easiest and fastest way to get a sweat on and heart rate up.

I can see a mild jog might be useful, but intervals? Seriously? biggrin

I don't have a lot of time when I get in the gym and I know that my aging body needs to be warmed up properly so I always like to start at a good temperature or injuries inevitably occur.

The intervals are not hard but they do get a sweat on. 5mins easy jog then 1min fast and 1 min slow for 3 - 5 rounds depending on time.

Gets me in the right place to do my stuff.

Just use the speed lever/buttons? It’s not that complicated or arduous
Seriously? it's an absolute ball ache. If I want to do intervals alternating between 10k and 16k an hour then it is a painful affair to use the buttons.
Have two treadmills next to each other;one running at 10kph and one running at 16kph and then just jump from one to the other.

Or (even better) have 7 next to each other running at 10/11/12/13/14/15/16 kph.

Most switch off once you step off them after 10/20 secs, so no, doesn't help anyone.

You could always warm up more thoroughly with the weights, which you'll still have to do anyway, regardless of how much you've run first.

Yep. That warm-up routine won't be helping much in terms of prepping for a lifting session.

i used to do 5-10minute low intensity/steady state on the cross trainer to warm up before lifting.. this was after cycling for 10-15minute to the gym. now i never bother. my warm up sets are my warm up.

Dynamic stretching would be alot better if you are trying to avoid injuries.

For warming up, I usually focus on the joints that are going to be used.

I can only recall one time in my gym where someone's left a machine ridiculously loaded with plates.

The OHP machine with, IIRC, circa 60-70kg per side.

I do all that as well. I have been doing this a long time and I know what works for me. It also aligns with my goal of having all-round ability not just weights. That 10-15mins warm up on the treadmill is also surprisingly effective for both cardio and fat loss - I notice the difference in a few weeks if I get an injury that stops me doing it.

Our gym has just had £250k refit done on the pool, sauna, steam and Jacuzzi area, (Its basically just been re-tiled, painted and new lights, but it's very nice)

Since it has been done I have had to listen to at least one member a day moan about the stty re-vamp!

Bizarre. People like to moan about change even if it's an improvement.

Got any before/after pics? (Of the refit not you!)

I feel like I am bouncing between frustrating niggles at the moment.

This morning I got up and noticed absolutely nothing wrong until I put my shoes on to head out of the house. Then I noticed a pain in my Achilles which has got progressively worse throughout the day.

Haven’t ever had a problem with it before and don’t recall any kind of injury or knock.

I am hoping it’s the shoes, but I’ve owned them a while and not had any problems previously.

Just so frustrating as it could be nothing or it could be a complete nightmare.

People doing heavy leg press make me cringe. I recall back in the mid 90s watching the gym owner and his mate try and free someone from underneath a leg press machine. The skinny guy doing the heavy leg press had spent a while trying to get someone's attention; I don't think the guy had ever had his head that close to his ring piece since he was curled up in the womb biggrin

probably been mentioned before but at my gym there are disabled spaces and quite a few members in wheelchairs which use them. When non disabled members park there they are asked to move except 4 people, a 6ft 7 Lithuanian doorman called Vlad, a stocky tattooed bloke in early 30s with an s3 who even spent today cleaning his trainers for 15 mins with doors open in the parking space after his workout and a couple of older dubious looking characters in a c63s. None of them have a badge but all look rough so the staff turn a blind eye.....
