Every medicine /drug comes with possible side effects . On champix I was rather irritable , which is not normal for me . As long as those around you are understanding then it is possible .

My experience of Champix is that they made me more than just irritable, more like psychotic dreams, restlessness. The bad mood swings and irritability I think are simply the change in routine.

The result is that it works.. I stopped after many many years of trying half heartedly. in all stopping was as it said on the tin, instant, the cravings subsided quite quickly as did the urge, the realisation took longer, I think in all about 8-9 months before I realised I never wanted to smoke again.

Now.. Nothing would make me smoke again, I feel completely different to how I have ever felt as an adult, I only wish I had thought of it sooner.

I'm adamant that i'll quit in the new year, mainly because its simply not a financially viable way of killing myself anymore! I almost did it a couple of weeks back but decided that I was only setting myself up for failure by trying to go cold turkey over Christmas and New year.

Also, since Boxing day the only time I smoked was last night, wont be having any tonight either so i think i'll be buying 10 Marlboro's tomorrow and they'll last me into the new year. Then its more money in my pocket and riding up those hills will be much easier!

I've had no issues with Champix, in fact Mrs M says I've been less of a grumpy gig than when I was smoking........ And certainly less of a grumpy gig than when I've stopped before.

In all due respect - idiot - do not buy 10, 20, or any, roll with the momentum.
Wake up thinking you have kicked it, carry on.
No, im having a right good night tomorrow and that will involve having a few celebratory smokes, regardless of what a man on the internets says!

Then, Enjoy !

Just thought you may be grasping the nettle, but not yet huh.
I'm more of a social smoker, smoking and alcohol go hand in hand IMO, dont really smoke whilst sober so to try kicking the habit for the first time on new years eve, never going to happen!

Not touched a cig since November 24th, I was always a social smoker...

It helps I cant get outside or to the pub to do it, bad side is I had to break my ankle to get me off them.

Final cast off tomorrow.

Noticed a difference and have missed them... we shall see when I gain access to the pub again if I try the odd one or two.

OK, so I'm hopeless. Smoking like a train today - altho just one ciggie left in the pack and even looking at it makes me feel sick. At home with the rug-rats tonight (and don't smoke at home) so hopefully just one ciggie away from smoke-free. I can do the odd-days here and there pretty easy, have previously gone 8 YEARS (until around 2007) and did 8 months last year.

Might be getting a Lotus Elan +2 as a project which I can throw the money I waste on smoking into.

Feeling pretty laid-back today and not had the urge at all. I'm even sitting at my little desk in the man-cave which is somewhere I've always smoked.

I got given a big tin of Fox's biscuits for Christmas. I took out the biccies and am putting the ££ I would normally spend on smoking into it (well, until I need the money for something else, or it starts looking like a decent amount of cash worth spending)

Good luck to everyone else who gives up.

Still no fags since Xmas day and the cravings are down.

I stuck a bottle of champagne I was given months ago in the fridge on NYE, but I've never had cause to open it. I'd planned to have it last night but decided to keep it - I'll reward myself with it in 12 months time if I hit my 12 month no drinking goal too.

So we're all smoke-free in 2013? Good job. I know I can give up, just need to stay given up!

Must be others trying it for the new year?

I stopped in October cold turkey.

The first week or so are really hard but it gets better. I found replacing the times I would normally have a smoke really hard like after a meal, break time at work. All I did was replace them with having a drink water or doing something to take my mind off it. I still get cravings etc now but they are less and less.

Good luck to everyone is trying to stop.

Just to give you a idea of how much difference it makes health wise. I did a run on Friday I'd not done for about 6 months. I don't run as far or as often as I did then but on Friday I went nearly 9 min faster than my previous PB. TBH I don't feel a difference in everyday life until I run or in the gym etc the difference is huge.

Hi all, day two of my stop smoking challenge! Just had my dinner and would normally have a smoke afterwards, instead had a litre of water, knocked the craving on its head a bit! I just feel more Hungry!! Normally when I'm hungry have a fag and its sort of stops the hunger sensation, I think there is a chance I will put weight on!! Good luck to everyone, just remember, the only 2 things smoking does is kills you and empty your wallet!

Day 2 nearly accomplished. Not really bothered like I thought, already £16 in my "look what you saved" kitty! Although I've had a couple of nicotine chews, so a bit of a lightweight.

Sense of smell already improved, jesus my kids stink! biggrin

Nice one. 16 quid isn't to be sniffed at in 2 days. It's amazing how I could justify it to myself in stupid ways, but procrastinate over buying something trivial for much less.

Gym this evening and 25 mins on the rower, 300 calories over 4 miles. Not too bad and my chest definitely feels better.

Day 3 nearly at an end.

Hopefully in a couple of days the worst of it will be over and I won't have an urge to kill.

Day 3 here as well, I've also been greeted with the urge to randomly drag someone from their car and give them a beating. Hopefully chilling a bit as the days pass.
